1931 Ford Model A Woody

Recommended Posts

SOLD!

This lovely 1931 Model A woody was restored in 2003 by a noted local restorer here in northeast Ohio to demanding MARC specifications. With extreme attention to detail, it's one of the most accurately restored woodies I've ever seen. Not too perfect, but exactly right with all the little items that many restored cars never show. It is an original woody, not a converted car, and uses a beautifully made reproduction body by John Kirst and hewn from trees cut from the same forest that Ford used for the original bodies. All of the hardware, brackets, backing plates, nuts, bolts, and screws are original Ford items, and the car's original body is included with the sale. The Manila brown paint is excellent single-stage urethane that looks proper, and the black fenders are unmarked.

The interior is fully restored, with black leatherette upholstery and all three rows of seats. The front door hinges are the ultra-rare originals, not piano hinges, all the handles and latches are from the factory, not reproductions. $800 worth of new side curtains were recently installed and fit quite well with proper dark leather bindings. Mileage is 1754, which is since the restoration was completed.

This is also a matching-numbers car, with its original engine whose number matches the frame. Fully rebuilt to stock specifications, it runs superbly and has been recently tuned. The only deviation from original is a high-speed 3.54 gearset in back which allows this woody to cruise at a comfortable 55 MPH. You'll also note a correct side curtain storage box underneath, as well as a proper tailpipe extension, which many restored woodies omit, but which is critical to keeping fumes out of the passenger compartment.

I've long been of the opinion that no car collection, even a modest one, is complete without a Model A. This lovely station wagon is completely sorted and restored to incredibly high standards and superbly maintained by a very fastidious owner. You will not find a better running, driving Model A than this anywhere.

Asking $34,900, and probably worth every penny. An exceptionally nice little wagon.
