Guest Birdman
Hi Folks,I have an Edelbrock dual quad setup on an Offenhouser intake on my 65 401.The carbs are setup so they are non-progressive with the rear carb having the choke. Is the non-progressive linkage correct or OK? Should I use a progressive linkage? What is the best way to go so my car will be a happy cruiser. Thanks
carbking
Early factory dual quads came with straight (non-progressive) linkage. When NHRA became more popular, the factory dual quads changed to progressive, as the factory carbs often were too large for the stock engine (NHRA required the use of "stock" carbs). One could upgrade cams, compression, etc. so the engine would turn more RPM thus the "race" engine could use the larger carbs. The progressive carbs generally used a choke on the rear (primary) carb, and no choke on the front (secondary) carb.If you live in a warm area (San Diego, Miami, etc.) you can probably get by without using a choke, so linkage type would depend on how well the carbs are sized to your engine (THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE LINKAGE TYPE!).Also, since the clones were designed for use on small block Chevvies, you will have some MAJOR tuning issues, unless the tuning has already been done for your engine.Jon.
