Guest pat in SC
I'm re lining my brakes this winter on my 27 Model 54 Master Sport Roadster. In removing the bands, I went to pull the rear axles. The left comes right out as designed, but the right side stops and sticks at about 1 3/8ths inch out and will come no further. Anyone have any experience with this before? Edited November 13, 2011 by pat in SC (see edit history)
Guest pat in SC
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/1927buicks/photos/album/511152152/pic/1418365584/view?picmode=medium&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=aschttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/1927buicks/photos/album/511152152/pic/2067878071/view?picmode=medium&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=ascApparently the axle was either an incorrectly machined repro that was a touch too long, or some other problem. I drove it out from the opposite side with a long rod. Somehow the opposite gear dug into the end of the axle and created a burr that hung up on the gear as I tried to remove it. You can also see the inside end of the splines were dug into by the axle gear, indicating it was inserted too far somehow, or was not machined right in the first place.
