Guest tommigun
I have a 47 oldsmobile 66 with manual transmission shift on the steering column. I want to remove the body from the chassis. Before I do this I need to separate the steering column from the chassis. How do I go about this:confused:
Rusty_OToole
When your car was built the steering column was attached to the frame and the body was lowered over it. There should be a plate screwed to the floor around the column. Remove the front clip, steering wheel and possibly gearshift then lift the body off.If this is not practical you should be able to detach the drag link, unbolt the steering box from the frame and drop it down out the bottom. You will have to see if you have room underneath the car.The steering box and column are an assembly and must be removed as one piece.
