'64 Trip Odometer problem

I took my Riv out for a drive today and topped off the gas. Since my fuel gauge doesn't work, I rely on my trip odometer to let me know how many miles I've gone since fill-up. I tried to set it back to zero and it will not engage. Has anyone had this issue and if so, is it a difficult fix?

I have seen speedometer repair offered in Hemmings, but I haven't used any of the companies. There use to be an AC Delco repair shop in virtually every major town in the US, they are now very rare, too.

There are some local companies who repair meters for cabs, they are likely to have enough expertise to fix a trip odometer.
