How to clean / restore a Brass ID Badge

Recommended Posts

Folks,

I have the original front badge / emblem (don't know whats its called) for the center grille for my 37 Silverstreak (model 224).

I was cleaning it (gently) to remove the surface dirt and discovered it was brass?

How would I clean the brass and polish it up? It also has a bit of this red / ruby nail polish type paint, can I remove and repaint?

Thanks!

The ruby red material is probably vitreous enamel made of melted glass. Try some Brasso to polish up the brass. It was likely plated when new.

It is possible to have the emblems replated and re enameled but for your purpose just cleaning and polishing should be all that is needed.
