Packard8
What is the difference in R1 vs R2 carb kits? I need to freshen up the AFB on my '63 R2 Avanti and I have a kit labeled "Studebaker, 1962-1964 Carter AFB except supercharged". As I recall, the R2 AFB has O-rings around the shafts? If that is the only difference, I have a good selection of fresh O-rings in various sized. Thanks
Guest stude8
There are many differences primarily in the size (diameter) of main venturi passages and the idle circuit passages on bottom where the carb sits on the intake manifold. Attached is a photo I made about 40 + years ago of an R1 and R2 Carter AFB side by side to illustrate the differences for an article in AOAI Avanti newsletter when I was editor.Stude8
Packard8
Thanks for the info, I was hoping to use the kit I have. Do you have any Stude Vendor recommendations for carb kits? I've been out of the loop re Stude parts for a few years. Thanks
carbking
Going from memory, as far as the repair kits go, at least the airhorn gasket is different. There are some seals in the kit for the sealed carbs (idle, and pump) that are non in the kits for the non-sealed carbs.Jon.
Guest stude8
I haven't ordered anything Avanti wise in many years but I see several suppliers who advertise regularly.www.StudebakerParts.com; Arizonawww.studebakerswest.net; Californiawww.studebaker-intl.com; Indianawww.fairbornstudebaker.com; OhioLook at these supplier websites and see who can help. For full service rebuilders there are several I hear good comments about from recent customers I know.Jon Myer [OH] 740-674-4897Dave Thibeault [MA] 978-897-3158Stude8
