Guest stude8 Posted May 21, 2010 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Not sure about your date, a 10 year old (Year 2000?) fan would be a viscous fluid dampened device, usual sealed for life and thrown away when defective.I have a 1928 Studebaker Commander with a self lubricated fan hub that sounds like your description of the Buick the same age. The two gears (one drives the other by rotation of the hub) are what amounts to a positive displacement oil pump. In mine the large gear is brass metal while the smaller driven gear is Phenolic material. I recently had it apart for cleaning and service of oil reservior. unimogjohn Posted May 24, 2010 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Taco, they come on Ebay from time to time. However, most folks are converting to sealed bearings versus the oil driven lubrication.
