Guest oldodgeboys
Found a late 1923 (1924 Series) DB engine and transmission in Joshua Tree National Park. Serial number is A37-506. Its located at the ruins of the Ryan ranch, a mining and cattle ranch from the 1870's to the 1930's. The DB engine was sitting with another engine that is still unidentified. The only marking of that 6 cylinder engine was 'BIG' and was cast into the head (a Studebaker Big-6 maybe?). There was a date code that indicated 1928.Both engines were lying next to a two-stamp mill and may have been used to power the stamper.I just love hands-on history! Guest oldodgeboys
The Studebaker forum confirmed that the other engine is a Studebaker Big-6. The year is still to be determined.http://forums.aaca.org/f126/28-stude-engine-found-joshua-tree-269915.html
