Guest 1930
Has anyone here seen a flatbed on any old Dodge trucks, are they completely made from wood and what type would have been used? Does anyone have any plans for building one? I need to make one for my truck and of course can modify any dimensions needed, thanks
keiser31
What year are you talking about? How big is your truck...3/4 ton, 1 ton...??? I have never seen a 1/2 ton flatbed on an original Dodge, but there could have been. If you want to do that conversion on a 1/2 ton or car chassis, here is an example of a Model A Ford 1/2 ton pickup/flatbed conversion that I used to own. A lot of bed or box manufacturers were independent and were dealership add ons.
Guest 1930
Thats a neat old truck, I am wondering if early beds teens to early 30 were all wood or were they a mix? What type of wood used

keiser31
I have no idea what kind of wood, but it had no finish and seemed to be pretty waterproof. It had a metal band around the outside edge holding it all together.
Guest 1930
Thanks, I was wondering if that were a steel band
keiser31
It's a "U" shaped channel and the edge of the wood is trimmed to fit inside it.
Guest 1930
I see, thanks again, I would not have guessed that
keiser31
I guess they wanted the bed wood to be flush with the metal so there would be no lip to mar whatever they were carrying. Made for easier loading/unloading, too I imagine.
