1998 GMC Express van non starter

Hi all,

I have recently bought this van from from a salvage yard (minor unrelated cosmetic damage) as a non runner. It refuses to start even with a shot of easy start in the air intake. There is a good spark at the plugs (no cross sparking) but still it don't even try to fire up. The previous owner said it just died whilst moving it a few days after the accident (ran for about 5 minutes). The fuel pump can be heard running and there is a strong smell of petrol after it has been turned over several times.

It has the V8 5 litre fuel injected petrol engine.

Any ideas as I would like to get it running for the coming show season.

Regards

X2 on the fuel pressure. The GM EFI requires 40 PSI minimum. A sudden non-start is frequently due to the in-tank fuel pump going bad. A fuel pressure gauge on the test port will tell this quickly. If you have fuel pressure, other possible problems are a stuck-open injector or a bad crank position sensor.
