Hi guys

i´ve noticed som big differences between the 2 models and i also discover a few minor differences.

for example last week i found a stamped mark "60" on the rear axle housing on my car serie 60.

i look at the spare parts car and found a "40" stamped on that one but i could not see any difference at all.

the cross member under the tranny is marked "60" on my car and "40" on the spare parts car .

could not find out the difference on those either

any ideas ....???

just curious

Standard Series 40 diff ratio is 4.444

Standard Series 60 diff ratio is 3.90 and has bigger brakes

May have been stamped for identfication during assembly

Both series have the same housing (third member) part number (5.505 1308387)

Series 40 & 60 have different gearbox's so perhaps a different cross member

And series 60 go FASTER :)

yes i know about the ratio but i tought that it was another difference to .

you can order a special with 3.90, did that housing says "60" ??

about the cross member, i have both to compare side by side but i cant see any difference at all.

first i tought that the 60 was made of heavyer material but that wasn´t the case.

hehehe, yes Allan, i agree ,60 goes faster

by the way

i discover that the steering gear housing is different between them.

the 40 series have 2 ears at the bottom of the housing and the 60 series have 2 ears at the top .

i´m learn that the hard way, i restore the wrong one first.

i didn´t notice it before i try to mount it on the frame.

allready restored the whole steering column.:-(((((

Always worth looking at those parts books you have. The 60 series has a longer wheel base, so the steering column should be longer (but I have not checked the books)

Series 40 ordered with the 3.90 had the end of the drive shaft at the brake drum painted a different colour. From memory 4.44 has a white spot of paint and 3.90 is red.

How long before you go for a fast drive in your 66C ?

The 60 series column is 4.921" longer than the 40 series.

interesting about the painted brake drum.

where did you learn that?

with my tempo, let´s say 1 year ,my guess.

moore or less depending on the metall guy who´s gonna help me with the body.

</div></div>Its the end of the axle shaft with the color. Its in one on the books, but could not find the reference. It may be the 1939 service Bulletins (Have lent my copy to Grant M in NZ). You have the same books as me, and then some more, so its there somewhere Edited by 1939_buick (see edit history)

another difference is the battery tray .

1939 60 series only.

(BTW I need one)

do you know something about the thin metal parts between the engine and the frame ?

i have a pair and i dont know which car they fit

they don´t fit mine and not the ´39 special parts car i have.
