Identify brass era magneto and coil?

A friend has this brass era "Michigan" magneto and coil that we can't identify. Is it a low tension magneto and coil, or some kind of dual ignition system? Any ideas on what sort of vehicle it might have been used on?

The magneto is labelled "Michigan Type A Magneto Detroit USA" and the coil (which is pretty fossilized at the back!) is "No. 1 coil Michigan Magneto Co."

Many thanks.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for that - it's certainly a possibility. Perhaps the Michigan Magneto Co. was a spin-off from the auto businesses?

Is there a surviving Michigan car or truck? I wonder if it uses a Michigan magneto!

By the way, it seems certain that it is a low tension magneto, feeding the coil, which then feeds the spark back to the center of the distributor.

So I'm told that Regal (of underslung fame) used a Michigan low-tension setup like this in the period 1908 to about 1913 - this one (with writing on the magneto end cap) might be towards the later end of the period.

Thanks to everyone who has looked and particularly those who have provided info - please let me know if there were other vehicles that used it. It would be interesting to know if there was a link with Michigan cars!
