onemint68cougar
Just restored. I am looking to find out what engine is in it. It has a flathead 6 cylinder, No marks on the car whatsoever except some numbers on the block and the vin number. I am looking to find out the tune up specs on this motor. I am told there were three msix cylinder engines built that year, Does anyone know how to tell what motor I have and where I could get the tuneup specs..Thank you Robert

Shop Rat
Here we go.If the motor you have is correct for a 1939 Dodge it should have a motor number like this: D11-(and then a number somewhere between 1001 and 186148)after the hyphen. If you are not sure then maybe these specs. will help you figure it out. Specs for the Dodge engine:6 cylinder, 218 c.i., 3.25 bore, 4.38 stroke.Specs for the Chrysler engine:6 cylinder, 242 c.i., 3.38 bore, 4.5 stroke.Specs for the DeSoto engine:6 cylinder, 228 c.i., 3.38 bore, 4.25 stroke.Specs for the Plymouth engine:6 cylinder, 201 c.i., 3.13 bore, 4.38 stroke. We do have a book with LOTS of tune-up info. once you figure out what engine you have. Let me know and we will even make copies of pages and send them to you. This info. is from an original MoTor's AUTO REPAIR MANUAL
