Guest edalfa
The manual heater control(at the thermostat housing) on my 40 Special is stuck open. That's fine at this time of year but it could get a little toasty if I nudged the fan switch during the summer. Any hints on how to free it? I intend to pull the radiator this winter so I guess that would be the time to address it.Ed
The Old Guy
When you get the radiator out , remove the heater control and disassemble it. It is mostly brass, and should come apart easily. The packing under the nut is probably the culprit. If it is old, it is stuck to the shaft. Replace the packing and you should be good to go
Guest imported_JPIndusi
Joe:My 48 Special has a brass heat control valve on the hose coming from the base of the thermostat housing. It has a small steel handle. It does not look like something from a plumbing supply, looks like it was meant to be there from the factory. Were these Buick authorized parts? It seems redundant in that there is a Ranco heat contol valve on the dash operated by the chrome "heat" lever.Joe, BCA 33493
The Old Guy
Joe I am not sure whether the 48 has the same heater valve that the 40 does, but the brass faucet like control is the one use on the 40 .i agree that if you have a ranco vale you should not meed the brass valve
