Bill Reichert
My 89 TC is getting an all forged CB with TU header, ported intake, 3" exhaust. What is the best SBEC for this setup. I THINK the 89 TC has the SBEC since the engines were shipped in 88 to Italy. Please correct me if I'm wrong.I'll be talking to FWD and TU about their computer options also but would like input from the gurus also.
Guest TC Toad
Bill, Is your 89 TC manual or auto transmission? Better question should have been. Is it a 16V engine?

inventorgtp
stage 3 and better get that tranny upgrades or it go POOF in a hurry. Stage 3 is a drop in, stage 4 takes some changes to the injectors as well as some other stuff. I have the s3 and just tickled pink over it. car_chick
I would ditto what inventor said. The 3-speed tranny is really weak and really should never have been mated to anything that isn't normally aspirated.
Guest TC Toad
What everyone is saying is correct. Chrysler made the exhaust restrictive and programmed the SEMC to actually de-tune this engine, so that the 3 speed automatic would be reliable and hold up in the TC. The transmission will not hold up with an engine putting out more then around 175-200 ft/lbs of torque, without some heavy duty modifications inside the transmission. So modify with care and caution! inventorgtp
I blew my trans up, went to a GOOD shop who rebuilt it and put some real heavy duty bits in it, cost just over a grand but its good for 300 ftlb's...at wich the axles would blow. inventorgtp
nope decided against stage 4, however the thought of nox did cross my mind
car_chick
In some states (like VA) Nox is illegal and you will not pass the state safety inspection if they discover your system.
