Cone clutch issues

Recommended Posts

I have a 1915 C37 Buick touring. The engine needs to come out to do the babbitting, but I can't get the engine and transmission to separate.

The leather faced cone clutch just doesn't want to come out of the flywheel - all I can get is about 3/4" of gap between the block and the tranny.

2 Questions:

1 - How do I get the engine and transmission to separate;

2 - Who does clutch resurfacing (I heard Kevlar is a good substitute for leather.)

But HELP please - how to I get the two apart. The clutch worked fine before teardown, so I know it's not broken and jammed.

Thanks!
