Do the Junior cars contain structural wood - specifically sedans? I may be looking at a car that has been described as very solid but am not sure about this aspect.
Also, seller describes car as a 110 but I thought all 6 cylinder '37s were 115s?
thanks
It's my understanding that the 38 Jr. was the first all steel Packard-

Wear comfortable walking shoes- you will walk for miles

Is the dist. still kicking around ? I have the 38 yellow coupe from RI

My 38 jr coupe with the 282 cruises at 66MPH @2500 RPM (my self imposed limit) with an R11 OD unit and the stock 38 4:36 rear end (tires are 700R15)

I leave my knob pushed in all the time, and when I get to about 25-30 MPH in 3rd I just lift my gas foot a bit and it shifts into OD. But just a note with the knob pushed in you are "free wheeling" so no down shifting to slow down.

Just remove the 2 bolts from the frame to the motor mount, Jack up the motor slightly then remove the 2 bolts in the center of the mount. Replace the 2 rubber pieces and put everything back together,

Be advised the combined weight of the engine and OD tranny will be a touch over 1000lbs. My engine hoist worked overtime.

if you want you can get 6v to 12 v inverters,, but they only work on - ground ,, flipping the packard from +ground to Neg ground takes a few min.. put the battery in neg ground, connect a jumper from the bat terminal of the regulator,, and jump to the field terminal for a few seconds, then reverse the wires on the ignition coil and you good to go,, the rest of the car does not care, unless you have a soild state vibrator in the radio, the original vibrators will work either way..
Just a little FYI: The converters can be had in either 6V neg or pos ground to 12V neg ground. Just state which when ordering.

No need to put a 12V batt in the trunk. You can get a 6V to 12V convertor for about $60 on Ebay. The units supply enough amperage to run a AM/FM radio or charge your cell phone and the like. I've been running one in my 38 coupe for about 3 years now- works great.

This is the 3rd time he's listed that tranny at the same price

I put an R11 in my 38 jr coupe (282 motor) and at 2500 RPM I do 66 MPH. I do find that running my car at speeds over 60 I do have to really pay attention to my driving. It's a bit more work than driving a modern car. As a side note I bought my R11 from Ebay and it cost $250 shipped. Another $100 to have my driveshaft modified and about $25 for a cable. I did all the work (except the driveshaft) myself. I used an under dash toggle switch for my electricals. The R11 I have does have a internal reverse lockout pin.

Woods?? So that was what all those trees were.

Just a thought but when the engine is running you have about 7.2 Volts running the system

You may want to check with a marina that restores wooden boats - they use a bedding compound.

Looking for an intake manifold for a 38 Packard 282 motor.

I don't know about much about OD trannys other than that the R11 works just fine in my car and yes when the OD isn't locked out via the cable it freewheels. Packard first offered OD in 39
-
I put an R11 in my 38 coupe and the wiring was quite simple. I'm not quite sure what you mean by manual operation. Normally when you go over about 20 MPH the governor will energize the solenoid relay and the solenoid will engage a pawl and when you lift your foot off the gas for a second the tranny will shift into OD, Also you have a manual push/pull cable that will lock out the OD if desired

There is a Det Lube on ebay right now - ends shortly

Yes you should remove that panel - makes life a whole lot easier.

The speedometer and the non woodgrained dash are 38. Can't tell if you have a clock but if so that sure would look nice in my 38

The old rule of thumb was a max sustained speed of 2500 feet per second piston speed. Over that, friction and wear rise rapidly.
I think that should be feet per MINUTE not second. But even at feet per min that would let my 38 282 motor cruise at a touch over 3400 RPM and that seems a mite high for sustained travel - 4.25" stroke
I Packardinfo down?
