1. A local transmisson guy told me it was nothing to do but to tear it apart. Sad news but a great chance to see how an automatic tranny looks like on the inside.. He wanted about 2.5k ($) to do the job for me, but he also said that with some patience and strict following of my shop manual i'd do just fine on my own. I'm 20 years old and not made of money so i'm going to try the second option.. So i spent last night removing the tranny from the car. Type A fluid is not an easy find here either, but with some detectvie work i managed to get my hands on some. I don't think it contains whale oil (i hope not) but it has that yellow color. / Jimmy Pictures: http://public.fotki.com/Jimmycoolada/chrysler/
2. Hi, i checked the oil-level right away and it was about halfway between the markings. Filled it up just in case. I use Type A transmission fluid, seemed like a good idea to use the same type as the car was made for. Earlier the tranny had some slipping between the gears but i just took the foot of the pedal when it shifted and it worked fine, until now.. The car has not been driven in years, at least 10, it was imported here in -93 and someone started to restore it. But as usual the project stalled and i bought it disassembled last winter. So far i've just done some test-driving on local roads, 100 miles or so. Will check the linkage Thanks /Jimmy
3. Took the Chrysler out for a spin today. After about 15 minutes of driving the car lost 2nd gear, shifted down and when it was supposed to go back into 2nd it just started to rev. Like in neutral. The transmission is a 1954 2-speed Powerflite Any ideas? Could it be the bands? / Jimmy in Sweden
4. Thank you mopar380, I'll try to contact him And it seems like the picturelinks are broken so here's the link to all the pics / Jimmy
5. Hi Brake fluid leaked into the main housing of the brake booster, in my shop manual i found this: "If fluid has leaked into the main housing, the condition may have been caused by dirt or foreign material in the brake system".. A broken gasket to the valve housing cover caused dirt to enter. After cleaning the valvehousing I now need two new diaphragm seals to make it work again (i hope). Can someone perhaps tell me where I can find the parts, or the part #? I can't find it in my Partslis. Thanks Jimmy, Sweden
6. The rear end Yoke on my car use clamps to lock the cross in place. According to my Shop Manual the only model that uses this type is the C62. The picture covering the C63 (New yorker) display a yoke without clamps. I hope i have the correct drive-shaft for this assembly. I talked to a guy selling mopar parts at a Swap meet yesterday, and he told me that Chrysler Shop manuals can be unreliabe in some cases. Using wrong pictures etc. Can the this be the case here? Can you perhaps messure your spare cross for me? Have a nice day / Jimmy
7. Hi I must add that not all "kids of today" are in to Fast and Furious cars, me and my friends have old american iron in our minds.. I'm 19 and own a 54 Crysler. My friends in the same age own and drive; Cadillac -51, Chevy Bel Air -57 and Buick Invicta 1960.. Just like others have mentioned, It's up to the owner what they want to do with their cars. It's fun to see the cars in mint condition looking like a brand new car. But i also enjoy looking at cars with modifications made to keep them running or to "perfect" them. Personally I don't think I have the heart to cut in my Chrysler... / Jimmy
8. A wise man once said "Anyone can restore a classic, but it takes a real man to cut one up" I like fine restored cars, but i can't see the point with all cars being in perfect original shape...
9. Hi I need a rear universal joint for my Chrysler New Yorker from 1954 (C63-1). According to my shop manual i have a Windsor (C-62) rear axle, and will need a joint with a block assembly. The old cross is missing (I bought the car in pieces) so I don't know the dimensions. Where do i find a new one? This is a rare car in Sweden (only 5 in the country) so there are no crosses in the stores here. Have a nice day / Jimmy, Sweden
