  1. New Member / Old Man Unfortunatley we do not live in a perfect world, but if we were going to start throwing stones perhaps E-Bay is entirely the wrong target... I believe WE as consummrs/sellers, whether it be automotive parts or cars are the root cause of all this distrust/anomostity between one another. (stay seated relax!) We must try to band together as collectors of antique automobiles and establish new goals of professionalism in how we introduce our products/cars to the public. When we say an Antique auto is classified as a "Number 2" the car must meet those qualifications. We need to bring back to our organization the trust that has long been forgotten for the sake of a dollar. The last car I purchased fell well short (1939 Chrysler) of advertisted expectations. I have spent all winter getting the thing safe for road use! Perhaps just a bit of old fashioned honesty between ourselves would make not only our lives less stressful but could help E-Bay do their job more efficiently... just a thought!

  3. Terry where can I get Freeze plugs. 1939 Chrysler 6
  4. I think I got this thing figured out... I believe I have a weak pump spring! I did not receive a new one with the rebuild kit... soooo I used an old ford spring that fit very good inside the Chrysler spring and everything works excellent. The car started up on the first crank. That is after I repositioned the distributer... I was 180 out. Very disapointed... have oil coming out around the middle seal of my new oil filter $54 bucks... not happy camper! Another week of waiting for parts. Good thing its winter can't drive anyways. Anyone know the number of the front parking light bulb?????
  5. Thanks for your reply hchris. I disassembled the carb completely today. The 2 check balls were in their place 1) small one under the pump. 2)Large one in other position... "right". Took extra care to clean out all fuel passage holes and reassembled. Still no gas discharged into carb throat. However with top of carb removed and gas in the float bowl... you can manually push down on the plunger/pump and gas comes out the carb throat as it should indicating that all passage ways are clear. According to rebuild picture/diagram all parts for the pump are inserted in their proper position. The thing that I do not understand is why is the pump lifter link just moving up and down on the pump shaft... for the life of me I can't understand how this can possibly work with out the lifter link somhow being attached to the pump shaft. I must be missing something??????
  6. Dewey would be interested in the 1937 motor... No transmission please. Can you tell me what you would be asking for for it. Springfield MO. could pick up!!!
  7. Have a 1939 Chrysler. Doing a complete tune-up and have some Carburetor problems. When pushing throttle no gas is going into the carb. Purchased a carb. repair/rebuilt kit and installed new pump still no gas. Yes gas is coming into the carb. the pump just doesn't work like I think it should. any ideas... Thank!! Carter one barrel.
  8. Well I have spent the last couple of months doing a tune-up on my old Chrysler. Begining to like this old car. Ready as ever to start this thing up but a couple problems. 1) the accelerator pump does not seem to work (not pumping any fuel into carb) yes the fuel pump is working fine. Taking the top off the Carter carb. and inspecting the pump operation... the pump does not go up and down... the shaft just goes up and down on the accelerator pump... is this normal? 2) I have no timing mark... "gone missing" how do I establish a new one?
  9. Thanks Elmo 20 - 40 it is (non-detergent) ...
  10. Thanks Elmo... will do! What oil do you recommend?
  11. I'm So greatful for your help Rusty and Elmo... What an amazing engine to give such faithful service for so many years. If I could ask for just a bit more information. On the left side of the engine (driver side) there is a "Oil Pressure Relief Value" 1) can you tell me how it works 2) How do you check that it is working properly 3) Mine has a spring "only" The pressure relief valves I have seen in the past have always had a ball bearing. I've never had the engine apart so I can't understand how the thing works?
  12. I have a 1939 Chrysler Royal Windsor 4dr sedan in very good condition. However I would like to up-grade to a newer engine. I'm told that 1937 - 1954 six cylinder engine is the same. Will a 1950's six cylinder work with existing motor mounts and transmission. And finally are there infact any advances within the newer engine's such as better oil systems, carberator etc.
