  1. Yea MARC & MAFCA tends to get to nit picky...

I'm gonna keep the Roadster as plain as possible, black walls tires, Black paint with a red pinstripe and the original style interior & top(long short cobra grain)

The only problem I had with A's & AACA judging was they judged the A-400 as a Victoria and got clobbered points wise, this happened at 2 meets!

I don't have any pics of the Roadster on this computer, but I'll put a couple up of my driver '30 Pickup..

Just discovered this forum and hope to see the A section get more active.. The other Model A forums have too much politics & flaming, so I don't get involved!

I'm 28 years old and own a restoration shop restoring old cars.. But then again I've been brainwashed- I grew up with the hobby!

All of my cars are bone stock too. I would like to see more of the 20 & 30 somethings involved in the club.

  3. Thanks for the help everyone!

I'd much rather mail a hard copy of the newsletter as I get the "we don't open attachments" and the members giving me an incorrect email addy.

But being a small but growing region, I send 90% of the newsletters by email due to cost reasons.

    I'll try the Adobe route.....

Thanks again and maybe I can return the favor one of these days.

  4. I used Dynamat once and I was not satisfied...

However the double sided foil stuff that you can buy does work well and the backing doesn't melt like dynamat did. It's a gooey stringy mess.

I put some in the door of a Model A I was restoring and over time it seperated itself from the door and fell back and smeared the door glass with the rubbery stuff. The inside of the door was bare metal roughed up with a Scotch brite so I know it adhered well, but just didn't like the FL heat I reckon.

  5. If nothing else things like Barrett-Jackson and Ebay are educating people and in most cases giving the wrong impression.

used to be you could pick up a decent project car for a 2-3K, now it's 4K with all the good parts being removed and 'ebay'ed'..

Even the lowly Zephyrhills Auction here in FL tends to bring crazy prices for some of the cars. I think it's more about uneducated buyers with more money than sense then it is anything else.

  6. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> My 18 year old just "got" his first car, a 2002 Ford Focus. I can't hardly get into it as the door is too narrow. </div></div>

My wife got a Focus as a loaner car while her '05 Mustang went in for service. I had to fold up like an accordian to get in!

As for me, I stick with my '56 Ford Sedan.. 6cyl stick shift I get about 23-25 mpg in town. And it has plenty of leg room and a real trunk. It's my version of American Express, I never leave home without it!

  7. Take a recent paint job and wash it with Comet or Bon Ami (any abrasive cleanser) and a really fine scotch brite this will dull it down and give it some patina. You can also sand an area here or there before you wash it with the cleanser to give it the 'thin paint' look.

The key is to make sure it's uniform all over.....

  8. I discovered this forum after renewing my membership in AACA and have learned some and hope to help out.

I'm the Newsletter editor of the newly formed Orange Blossom Region and am just getting back up to speed on newsletter publication.

I used to co edit the now disbanded Imperial Polk Region's newsletter.

We email the newsletters to people who have an email address. However not everyone has the same operating systems/software and some can't access the file. Is there a universal file that can be read regardless of software--like Html or .doc etc..?

    Thanks for any advice..

  9. I'd use Weatherstrip adhesive or possibly rubber cement. It will give a bit unlike CA (superglue). The CA will lossen and pop off over time, not good if you loose that piece while driving down the road.

If you get a good paste wax it will help keep the paint from drying out. You may want to use a psray wax like Meguiar's Quick Detailer on the pinstriped portions.

  10. You can still buy top dressing, also you can use neatsfoot oil or linseed oil to help put back some of the oils into the top. Then just keep it sprayed down with Armor All or other protectant.

Long-short grain topping is available from Lebaron Bonney.

What kind of car are you working on?

  11. I used one from Bratton's on a customer car and it worked fine and compared well to an original in respect of same guage metal etc.

Now if I could only find a suitable reproduction of the bracket attaching bolts! Most originals are not usable.
