  1. Thank you Bernie, I clicked on your link to Don Smith who has the rental tools including a KMO187-10 "Wide Sweep". I have left a message for Don to call me. I'll be asking him if his -10 "Chevrolet 6 wide-sweep tool will also work for my Buick straight 8. I appreciate your response, and also Chris' poetry. Wally =============
  2. ADVICE WANTED: I have re-installed the cylinder head to the engine after a valve job, torqued the head bolts cold to the prescribed 65-70'#s, adjusted valves, etc. and driven the car. The manual says, for good reason, to re-torque the head bolts after achieving operating temperature. Buick Shop Manual shows a KMO187-1 3/4" wrench attachment tool that is used to re-torque the cylinder head bolts. The right side head bolts are installed beneath the rocker arm shaft assembly and cannot be accessed without the noted tool or equivalent. Left side is fully accessible. Without such a tool, I believe that I'll have to warm up the engine to operating temperature, then quickly remove the rocker arm shaft assembly to re-torque the head bolts. Then recheck/set the valve lash again cold, and again after warming. This seems doable if necessary, but not desirable. I have not yet been able to locate anyone with such a tool. Anyone know where I can find one to use/rent/buy? Anyone have a better way to accomplish this task? Thanks, Wally Luther Palm Desert, CA =================
  3. Hi Mike, Sorry, I haven't checked the site for awhile. Did you get this figured out? I think my shop manual has a diagram. I've hooked mine back up again and I think that its right although I haven't checked it yet as I haven't reinstalled my new windshield wiper/washer cable and I still may not get to it for a while. Let me know. Wally
  4. My trunk handle is broken and I WTB another one. I'd like to find one that is functional, with a lock and with decent chrome, if possible. If someone also has a handle base with good chrome, that would be great. Thanks,
  5. Hi Bill, Great advice. I went to Ebay and bought one! Thanks!!
  6. Hi Mike, I just returned from Speedweek at Bonneville Saltflats and found your note. That's fantastic - I really appreciate your offer to send the cable to me! Please let me know what I owe you and I'll send you a check right away. I've also built up a little supply of '47 Super 56C spares, so let me know if you're looking for anything for yours. The only other thing that I really need now is a trunk handle as mine is broken. Please let me know if I can ever do anything for you. Wally Luther wallyL384@aol.com 215 N. Dart Canyon Rd. P.O. 8. I seem to have everything for the wind shield wash system except a bottle. It is one with a 2 7/8" threads at the neck and is about 9" or so tall. anyone know where I might get one? Thanks,
  9. I need to buy or have a new control cable made and haven't had any luck finding a source. The cable runs from the vacuum motor back through the firewall to the switch that goes up through the dash above the radio. I found an old seized-up cable and had it sent to me and I removed the bottom of the switch barrel and replaced my gear (crumbled to bits) with the old one (looked good but appears to be made of pot metal) from the other cable. It worked ok initially, but then the gear stopped driving the cable in (windshield wash) and out (wipers on). I think the replaced gear may have also crumbled. The cable is such a pain to remove, I haven't done so again, yet. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks,
  10. 47 Buick Super Conv 56C needs: - Trunk Handle - functional with good chrome; - Windshield Wash Bottle (only) with 2 7/8" threaded neck; - Windshield Wiper/Wash control cable assembly. Thanks,
  11. I WTB a functional Trunk handle/lock assembly with good chrome; windshield wash bottle only (2 7/8" dia. top); functional windshield wiper/ wash control cable. Thanks,
  12. My 1947 Super Convertible has a spotlight that looks to be a factory installation with the ivory handle matching the steering wheel and other knobs. The outside rear view mirrors (door-mounted) look to be the stock installation, and separate from the spotlight. The installation however is quite awkward, with the spotlight usually in the way of the hood when opening and/or the mirror contacts the spotlight when opening the door. Not a very elegant design, if original. Makes me want to remove the spotlight. Am I missing something? Thanks,
  13. Hello Robert, That's a really good idea that I sure would support. The population of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties together is more than many states. I don't have any idea of BCA membership for the inland empire, but I have seen quite a few really nice Buicks in the area. I wonder how we could determine the level of interest? Thanks, Wally
  14. Hello Doug, I appreciate the endorsement for the Orange County Chapter. It looks like an active chapter with a lot going on. As you noted, driving from my area to the O.C. would really be a challenge on Fridays. Good luck with your studies and your cars - you've got alot going on. Thanks, Wally
  15. Hello, I've recently acquired a 1947 Buick Super 56C Convertible. I live in Crestline, in the mountains above San Bernadino, California. I would like to become affiliated with a local Buick club in Southern California, and I'm looking for recommendations. Thanks,
