Has anyone heard of "cork composite material"?
Better than good old gasket material?

Revisiting this topic 22 years later.
My ST300 likes to squirt about 4 ounces of AT Fluid when going from reverse to forward on a cold engine/transmission.
It's not the rear seal or cooler lines.
The pan gasket is wet toward the front passenger side.
I'm going to try a .060 gasket material.
Drives me nuts.

Does anyone know the best source for a ST300 Torque Converter to input shaft seal?
Also a pan gasket.
Or the part numbers?

UPDATE.........
After installing a fuel pressure regulator to 4.5psi, exchanged Edelbrock 1406 for a 1403 (Thanks Speedway) and switched to E-15 gas....
We have a winner ... runs smooths as glass at idle, low end and acceleration.
The mechanical fuel pump was putting out 8psi

Hey Ben good to hear from you.
Hopefully the warm weather will hang on long enough to try this fall.
Otherwise we'll be shut down for winter, just as you Texans are beginning to run the streets.

So....
Bill Stoneberg would say to me.. you idiot have you checked all the specs?
Like the fuel pressure?
Did you read the manual???
Read the manual "who does that?"
No I did neither till last night.
Edlebrock in the manual states "Operating fuel pressure should not exceed 5.5"
My new fuel pressure gauge reads 7.7 to 8.
Meaning your pushing fuel past and over flooding the engine and fouling plugs. Also discoloring the carb, which it did.
There lies the diagnoses

So sad to hear.
Bill was a true Buick Enthusiast, a great friend to all.
He gave so much to us in the BCA that can never truly be measured.
He had the courage to standup and sound off about the BCA's finances and then worked to correct them with countless hours of dedication.
I had a chance to work with him closely when, by his suggestion, the Ames, Iowa Event took place.
Best to you Bill,
Deepest regrets to Dee.

Update.
Speedway is going to give me a full return credit.
But I did check fuel pressure and it's steady at 7 1/2.
Is that too much to blow over the float?
The front half of the carb is varnished with dark fuel after 3 hours of running??????

I'm going back to SPEEDWAY tomorrow and demand the jets NTX mentioned and let you guys know what I find out
-
Dang I've worked cars for 50 plus years, this one has me stumped.
NTX, I think you may be right on the jets.
Also, I'm suspicious of the timing. I had a similar setup on a 64 skylark with the 300 and ran like a sewing machine

What I meant was "HEI" . I have my Sunday brain going.
And good to hear from you as well

And Hey John,
Been a while.
Thanks for the posts

Stock Camshaft
Timing with vacuum line unhooked is 2.5 BTDC (What my spec sheet recommends) goes to about 15 degrees BTDC with vacuum line attached
Thermostat 180 degrees and 180 after warmup

Hey All,
It's been a while but I'm still wrenchin' Buicks.
I have a freshly overhauled 65 300 with factory square bore 4 hole intake.
With a new 1406 Edlebrock 600 cfm.
All 8 holes at 160 compression.
15 plus vacuum
Dwell at .30
2" ZOOMIES with 4" inserts for mini muffler
Standard factory distributor with new points and condenser - non efi. (The combined type)
So the problem.... the plugs turn black after 30-40 miles.
Backfires (mostly front four holes) I can tell by watching ZOOMIEs
It is running rich
I'm down to
1. too much carb. but I've talked to several who advise the carb is not too big.
2. put on efi distributer for more spark?
Any thoughts???

I'm putting it in a 23 roadster.
The 300 is balance/blueprinted and upped to a 340 cam/pistons.
I have nice cast exhaust for sale

Can't seem to find headers for a 65 300 CI.
Or does a 68 350 have same bolt pattern
-
Do you still have this.
