In case anyone is interested in this topic I have found some limited information. This was on the only result from a yahoo search: Perkins, 1914, Massnick Phipps Mfg. Co, Detroit, Michigan, 1914 Perkins L roadster. The Standard Cataloge of American Cars says p1171 3rd edition: Perkins, Detroit, MI 1914-1915; A car called the Perkins has been reported to have been built in 1914-1915 by the Massnick-Phipps Manufacturing Co of Detroit. Details regarding it are lacking, but it is known that the fim built the Robie for a Chicago cyclecar producer in 1914 and made the V-8 engine for the Remington of 1915. "Contracting machinists and auto parts" was the way Wlater Phipps and Frederic C. Massnick describer their work in Detroit city directories of the period. their plant was located at 1091 Champlainn, and their modesty was becoming. The Perkins four and eight cylinder engines they produced were well respected. So, either we have an engine from a Perkins or perhaps we have an engine from a Robie. Perhaps more will turn up. I will try to track the Perkins.
