My battery cable (ground) has a disconnect wheel that's part of the terminal connector. All I have to do is turn the wheel counter clock wise a couple of turns to disconnect the battery. Makes it really easy!

I think my car was made in 1949. Aa a result, the battery latch is thru the ventiport. There is a screw that turns clockwise to release and counter clockwise to lock. Passenger side will not latch so you can't open the driver side of the hood without removing the whole thing. I've been bending and prying as the repair manual suggests but to no avail. I guess I need to spend more time at it.
I always disconnect the battery. Seems to save the battery. I'm amazed how much cranking power this 6 volt has.

Yes sir. Bought the car 2 months ago and am still trying to figure it out. My two big problems are starting and getting the hood to latch. Still trying to find the correct adjustment for that one.

Thanks Johm. Helpful advice.

Thanks for the replys. The car is new to me so it will take some doing to figure out the problem if it's wiring (no one of my strong points). The repair manual must be helpful somewhere.
Thanks again!

A stupid question: Should the starter crank when the key is in the off position? Mine cranks anytime you push the pedal regardless of the key position. Since I have to pump the pedal to get the car started, it seems like I'm putting a lot of strain on the starter.
Thanks!

Thanks guys for the help. I'm sure the carb did not go out to a professional for a rebuild, so, that will have to be the number one item. I'll check on all the other suggestions presented.
It's good to know there's so much knowledge out there for us old novices.
I'll let you know how I make out!
Thanks!

I've only had the car for a month or so. It's running quite rich and takes forever to return to normal idle. When first trying to start cold, it fires, then stalls. After that I have to push the gas 3 - 5 times to the floor then hold the pedal to a postion that just fires the starter and no more. After a long crank she fires up. I never smell gas while trying to get it started. She also runs with a pronounced 'miss'. The driveway under the exhaust is marked with tons of black (almost liquid) spots after starting. The carb also seems to be leaking at the manifold gasket.
Per the Seller, the carb rebuilt and the electrical (plugs, points, condenser, wires) were completed or replaced within the last 300 miles. But, the car has basically been in storage for 14 years.
This is all very new to me and frankly, aside from the obvious (take the car to an expensive restoration garage), I'm not sure where to begin. Is rebuilding the carb best left to a shop (as I recall, there isn't much in there)? How hard is it to adjust the carb and choke?
Obviously, I have little experience but would rather do the work myself. The adjusting parts have me a bit worried though
Any help/suggestions will be appreciated greatly!

I'm located in Frederick, MD. Looking for a project Roadmaster '46 - '54. 2 Door only. Would prefer something within one days drive but will consider anything for the right car. Does not have to be in running condition. Something just above a parts car would be just fine. Would consider any model '46 - '49 Sedanette. Please reply by email. My address is gnoub@yahoo.com.
Just as an FYI for those posting similar ads: you would not believe the scammers that have replied to my Hemmings post. It's amazing how many people are trying to sell cars they don't own.
