  2. I am looking for a 1948 Chrysler Crown Imperial gas guage. This is the one with two wires to the sender unit. Think it was used 40 to 48 probably on all models. Leads appreciated.
  3. I have a 48 C40 Crown Imperial and just rebuilt the engine replacing the rear main seal in the process. Withing 2 miles the rear main oil seal had popped out against the bolts on the torque converter, destroying it. I though the engine builder had goofed, purchased a second, installed it with the same results, tried again gluing it to the cap and still doing the same. Need advise on what the hecks happening and how to get one to stay in. Any ideas or leads greatly appreciated.
  4. Thanks for the reply Bill TO be sure we are on the same page, this seal has a grove with a thick lip and a very small thin lip. I am placing the thick lip toward torque converter. The manual say it you should have to drop the crank slighly to force it in with the split being at the top. The seal slides in easly without droping the crank down. So though the problem was the seal was spinning in the housing. So after inserting the seal I applied Permatex type 1 to the cap and let it set several days before giving it a try. It was out in 2 miles.. So now wondering if the seal, an after market item, is a bit to large and is poping out from expansion. Now thinking maybe I need to get another and trip it a bit, rotate it so the split is at the bottom and then glue it. Have not tried the snag on the cap idea but question it will work as now dont think it spinning. Any ideas?
  5. I am on my third new rear main seal which will not stay in. Pops out and gets chewed up by the bolts on the torque converter. Have tried gluing it in with the same results. I am in need of any ideas or leads..

  7. The hydrovac brake booster on my 48 Imperial has be disconnected and brake lines piped around it. The car is exceptionally hard to stop. I have called a couple of supplier to have the booster rebuilt and they both say don't bother as did not work when new. Does anyone have experience with these boosters? I need direction as the car is not safe to drive as is. George
