I was thinking the 70 GS chrome lid did not have a decal?? I know 71 did not have decal so may be confusing the two. It was common for owners to add the decal on 71s thinking it actually belonged and factory forgot it, or it fell off.

I do know factually the 68 (430) chrome lid did not have a decal

I doubt the chrome air cleaner lid on the 1970 Riviera GS had a decal based on my experience and also as we know the 68 and 71 Riviera GS models did not have a decal.

Further, I believe it is a much cleaner look without the decal.

  2. Larry,

That piece is known as the center trunk filler.

It was added in the mid 1968 model year and included on the 1969 Rivieras.

I do not see drill holes in the side pieces to install this panel on the photo you furnished so I suspect your Riviera was produced before the center trunk filler was being installed on the Flint assembly line.

Briz on the V8 Buick website has reproduced this piece.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Larry,

Buick dealers sold a passenger outside rear view mirror which is the same for all 1968 and 1969 Buicks.

It is the mirror image opposite of the standard, non-remote drivers side outside rear view mirror.

The one you pictured appears somewhat different as it is the optional remote mirror.

Many years ago the NOS mirrors were difficult to find and expensive.

However, they have been reproduced in approximately the the last decade or so.

For example, CARS LLC lists it as SKU: MK689R for $149.00

    Hope this helps.

My recollection is that '70 is the last year for rear-wheel-drive Cadillac convertibles. Is that right?

    Yes.

1971-1976 Cadillac convertibles were front wheel drive Eldorados.

Was this the car that the Batmobile was built on? Great looking car IMO.

The original Batmobile was built by George Barris from the Lincoln Futura concept car which was itself constructed by Ghia.

The Futura was eventually sold by Ford Motor Company to George Barris for $1 "and other good and valuable consideration".

  6. Cadillac Fleetwood 75 limousines and nine passenger executive sedans had two separate air conditioning systems.  The systems  independently cool the front and rear compartments.  The air intakes on the upper part of the rear fenders supply the trunk mounted air conditioner for the rear compartment system.

Those bodies were built in Euclid, Ohio then shipped to Flint, MI for final assembly - chassis, engine, front clip, and finishing touches.

As Ed indicated above, the first and second generation Riviera bodies came out of the Euclid Ohio Fisher Body plant.

The EUC letters stamped on their data plates refers to this.

  8. GM built two twin turbo 1983 Riviera convertibles for actual track use.

As Ed indicated, one is owned by the Sloan Museum.

The other was owned by the GM Heritage collection.  It was auctioned off and Jay Leno purchased it.

I am still pretty sure this car has been repainted and the quality is not what the photos show; it's worse.

Agreed, it may very well have been repainted in its original color or possibly changed to the factory available color of light gray metallic.

Judging from the interior I would guess it likely left the factory with that exterior paint color.

I believe this car was repainted! If I remember right isn't there supposed to be the C-O-N-T-N-E-N-T-A-L in the perimeter of the fake spare tire bulge on the trunk lid? Also I don't remember seeing these cars in gray

I think you're right about the lettering.  And the "Mark III" being a later add.

The CONTINENTAL letters on the spare tire bulge were present on all 1969, 1970 and 1971 Mark III's.  They were affixed to the paint with two sided tape in 1969.  They were fastened with bolts in 1970 and 1971.

The Mark III lettering on the spare tire bulge was not put there by the factory.

The color of this Mark III is light gray metallic (poly).  It was produced no later than 12/31/1968 as it does not have headrests (mandated as of 01/01/1969).

  11. With due respect, As Gene alluded to above, suggest you are sure they indeed are 65 rallyes.

Many rallye wheels are misrepresented or the parties do not understand the nuances of Buick rallyes.
