  1. Everyone tells me how smart these cars are, I guess I am going to have to start believing!! Seems like a good design and makes perfect sense to me...now! Speaking of smart, your pretty sharp yourself fire-person smile.gif Thanks!

  2. I have one more question about the door speakers and it's a tough one. The doors have two speakers one looks to be a mid-range to low-range speaker and the other a tweeter. Does this system have a crossover network that sends the correct frequency of music ranges to the respective speakers or does both speakers get the full range of sound....or hertz? I am installing a new door speaker thats a full range speaker system and want the full range of sound or hertz to go through to new speaker. If it does have a crossover, where is it located so I can disable it? Thanks!

  3. Does anyone know the colors of the speaker wire positive and negative connections. The back wires are yellow/brown and the other side is blue/light blue. Since we have gone this far together, does anyone know the front speaker color polarity's as well? Thanks for helping!

  4. I am really confused...once you disconnect the 6 by 9 speaker does not the tweeter come out as well...there is no independent tweeter back there?? The speaker wires...one is a yellow/brown wire and the other side is blue/dark blue...which is positive and which is neg? Thanks so much!!

  5. Recently sold my Jag and I must say that there were more scam buyers than bonafide ones. The letter generally starts like this: "My client is interested in your car...." After you write descriptions and send pics, they always conclude the deal with an offer to purchase but some long story why they have a money order for almost twice the amount of the car, they want you to cash it, give their agent the difference and the car. Days later the bank contacts you about the bad paper and demands repayment. Even worse than that, I contacted law enforcement about these scams and they do not even pursue them because they are so common amoung used car sales...truly turning around the old adage buyer beware to seller beware! ***Even with money orders and counter checks, always contact the issuing institution before giving up the title to verify authenticity***

  6. With all the hype over the Indy 500 race this weekend I thought I would share a pic of my other car with the group. In 2000 I inherited an authentic Indy 500 parade car from my father which was driven at the race during the parade laps by a Mr. Rex Fleenor from Indianapolis, IN. My father kept the car in perfect condition and I drive it rarely. Oh, it's a 1974 Olds Delta 88 Royale....there were 92 made specially for the race. The official Pace car was a Cutlass but the Delta was somewhat larger and made for a better courtesy vehicle. I know it's off subject but I hope you enjoy this car thats a part of the Indianapolis 500 heritage smile.gif

  7. I am curious if anyone else has tried aftermarket speakers and if the sound improved appreciably as a previous poster said? After 14 years i have often wondered if the speakers still sounds as good as when the car was knew....if they degrade it seems new speakers would be a good idea....what do you think people? smile.gif

  8. Dear Dr. Jim,

Congrats on your impressive surgical procedure and I am glad the patient not only lived but is prospering as well smile.gif In retrospect, did you find a way to get to the offending filter without cutting into the car? Sometimes when you get into things as you have you find there may have been another way to approach it....thanks!

  9. Geez Roddy, lighten up. After all this is a site where people already own Reatta's and not a site that is in the business of selling cars. I think "Autotrader.com" gets many more hits than the rest and your local paper to me is the best way to sell a car. You seem very angry to me and I read the posts and people have not said one thing against you or your car, again, lighten up. May I suggest decaf instead of regular next cup?

  10. Mine does the same thing as yours does Jenny, kind of sticks when you push the button. I think this is normal, perhaps Buick and all their fine engineers should have put a spring to pop it open somewhat to save on the wear and tear to the finger nails smile.gif

  11. Your too sweet Nic!! smile.gif Flattery like that will get you everywhere with me baby!! Like my profile says, "I am a sucker for a guy with a nice car."

Another side note to my post...a number of members have asked me about my Jaguar. It definately seems that people who love Reatta's also love Jags as well.

  12. Selling tips?...well, here's one more solution.

I was trying to sell my 1989 Reatta back in Phoenix and was not getting offers to my likeing...at all! I tried a new tact that works extremely well for me. I looked at the websites and magazines for people interested in trades. The funny thing is that even "non-Reatta" people that are into cars have heard lots about Reatta's and think hard about owning one when given the opportunity. I found a man that was selling a very nice Jaguar XJ-SC Cabriolet and had a listed price of $9500. We ended up trading titles and I gave him a thousand dollars. I bought the Reatta for $3200 and put less than $500 into it for needed repairs, drove the Jaguar for 2 years and ended up selling it for $7500. A very nice profit and had a great time driving the Jag for those two years smile.gif

  13. Hi Jim,

I decided to bypass the heater core for now. Seemed the quickest and easiest for now seeing as summer is here. If you would like to send the info I will probably deal with the replacement in the fall. Thanks for the advise as well, If I do this thing I do not want to have to worry about it for another 14 years smile.gif

  14. I think it's a good idea personally. I tried to log onto the site, registered but could not get to the chat area. It just kept wanting me to enter a password. Maybe I should post a message on this site to find out how to log on to the other site???? Go figure!

  15. I found the 3M adhesive and tried to apply it today but total disaster. I only bought one can and it was not enough to scratch the surface. I did peel the old stuff off, but the adhesive seems to just leech into the headliner anyway with no appreciable adhesion. At 15 bucks a can I figure I should have bought 3-4 cans for there to be enought to adhere to. Since I already wasted the first can with no result, it seems that a shop that would do it for 70-100 bucks would be well worth it. I should have never started this headliner project....that huge sucking sound is my money being spent on headliner Glue. Note to self, buy shares of 3M tomorrow morning....

  16. Thanks for the suggestion Mike. I took off the old headliner yesterday and today am off to JoAnne fabrics for a new headliner. I will look for the 3M product you mentioned....do you have any other suggestions on applying the new headliner to the form backing? Is there a trick to getting it to look "good as new" and avoid those nasty little bubbles? Any advise, as always, is greatly appreciated!!

  17. Congrats Jenny on the headliner replacement. You have inspired me to do mine as well....where did you buy the replacement headliner and how much did it cost you? Thanks!!

  18. Hi Jenny,

It sure is a pain not having your window motor work!! I had a car recently with the same problem (not my Reatta). I usually try to do most of the work myself but decide to let a local small shop do the repair, he did let me bring him the part however. I saved lots of $$ getting the part from a junk yard, Jim Finn from this site has parts cars and has always treated me very fair in the pricing dept. I decided not to attempt this repair myself because there is a spring in the assembly that if not done right can cause great damage to our little fingers. Speaking for myself, I like all 10 fingers just where they are!! I would suggest getting the part from Jim, drive to a so-so to poor area in town, find an auto repair shop and ask him to put the part in for you for cheap. This always works for me. I move alot and each town I go to I find one of this guys that need the business and save tons of money on parts and labor. Good luck with your 1990....love the white/red color combo!!

  19. I recently placed my 1988 Jaguar XJ-SC Cabriolet V-12 for sale on EBAY and only got bottom feeders to bid on that exception and collectible car. I thought the national exposure would be good but was saddly dissapointed. I suggest Autotrader.com and Hemmings....and for that matter, an ad in you local paper. Althought a specialty car, your local paper would be good as well. After EBAY, insiderslist.com and autotrader, my good ol local ad sold my car for close to asking price.

On a more personal note, when I saw "Betsy Blue" for sale I have a very sad feeling in my heart. I have seen the pics you posted on the site and knew this was a man that loved his car. Maybe I am just a big cry baby, but I really feel saddness that your car will be sold and you will not frequent this site much in the future. I just hope she gets a good home!!
