  1. This is no problem. I did this on my 1952 Dodge. Leave the 6 volt positive ground system untouched. Find a small 12 volt alternator (I used a delco with internal regulator, one wire hookup). Fabricate a few brackets to mount the altenator to the engine and line up the drive belt. (I mounted it under the 6 volt generator so that it would not be to obvious and ran it off the same belt). Find a spot and mount the 12 volt battery (I located mine in a corner of the trunk in a battery box. Run a heavy wire from the 12 volt battery positive to the alternator (always use fuse). Ground the battery and the alternator (yes you can use 6 volt positive and 12 volt negative grounds). Mount a fuse box near the battery and wire in the 12 volt accessories. Two separate systems, no problems.
  2. Serial Number is 7754378 It is an Imperial not a Saratoga. JB
  3. My grandfather purchased a new 1952 Dodge Regent in 1953. Flathead 6. I have the car now. Engine has always been blue with black accessories. John B.
  4. I am restoring a 1952 Imperial 4 door sedan. I have a few question about this project. 1. The id plate on the firewall states "Model 55", according to all the refernce books I have found, this stands for a Saratoga, but this car is an Imperial (132"wheelbase). Why the difference? 2. The engine is a 331 hemi, but not the original. The serial number on the block is C551376C. I have not found this number in any reference book. Why? 3. I rebuilt the engine. It runs fine (just a little rich), has good oil pressure. Problem is the main bearing clearance. Main bearings 1 to 4 have clearance .0015, main bearing 5 (rear) has clearance .004+ The machine shop said this was fine since the rear bearing is over two inches wide. I need anouther opinion. Is this acceptable? or should I disassemble and repair? I do not want a broken crank, or spun bearing. Any help would be appreciated. John
