  1. Victor,

I looked up starter switch in my parts book for the 1934 President © and they only specify the Startix. So it would appear that this was the standard equipment for this year. Perhaps someone else can chime in with any additional information.

Incidentally, I do have a Startix available if you have any interest. I wili PM you with contact information.

  2. Victor,

The same manifold was used on various 8 cylinder models from 1929 to 1937. In 1938 the water pump was moved to the front of the block.

The round holes are 3/8". The D shaped holes are 1.475" high by .56 wide at the center. The "flaps" are 1.57" high by 1.37" wide.

I was fortunate to have found a NOS one at Hershey several years back.

  3. Woops, you did say you had a Dictator 6 and not an 8. Here is the information for the 6:

Tappet clearance from Studebaker Service Bulletin 38 A:

    Dictator 6 Exhaust Intake

    Hot ---------- .006 .006

    Cold---------- .007 .006

The cold setting is considered room temperature or 70 degrees F while the hot temperature is considered approximately 150 degrees F or after the motor is thoroughly warmed up.

And answering your other question, the parts books shows the 6 and 8 as using the same valve springs.

  4. Mike,

What you have is a 1931 Model 54 Studebaker Standard Six. The Erskine name was dropped in 1930. The Q indocates that it is a coupe, and the 3 indicates the level of trim. There should be a serial number plate on the drivers side of the frame under the front fender.

  5. It is a Studebaker Light 6 motor, 1920-1922 (and possibly early 1923). Yes, they did use an aluminum head. In 1923 they made a number of design changes including a more conventional iron head.

  6. I am working on a late 1931 President project car and am still looking for a few parts. Here a few items that I am either missing or hope to find better ones than the ones that I currently have:

    1. Gas tank - 29-31 President

    2. Rear splashguard (gas tank shield) - President and Commander from 29-31 are very similar, please let me know what you may have. One of these recently surfaced at an auction in N.C. on 6/14/08 - anyone know who may have purchased it?

    3. Hubcap cores - 30-31 President

    4. Wheel - 30-31 President

    5. Bumpers - especially rear - 31 Commander or President

    6. Intake silencer - 31 President

    7. Tailight - 31 Commander or President (have 1, but would like to be able to install second one on right)

    8. Radiator shell - 31 Commander or President

    9. Sidemount clamps - 31 Commander or President

I would be very interested to know what other parts, literature, and accessories you may have available.

    Thank-you,

    Joel (860) 871-6720
