That is one beautiful car you picked up, I'm impressed. I think you should do as little as possible to disturb that time capsule of a Special, other than making it roadworthy. Good luck!

The way I see it is that a company like GM is like a living person, with ups and downs and triumphs and failures, just like you and me. GM has gone through hell and is on the way back right now.
Thing change. They always change, they must. GM is still here to write the next chapter.

The one thing the 70s full size cars have going for them is sheer comfort and power.
You are so right, Thriller.
I think I'm going to go enjoy me some sheer comfort and power right now!

I'm interested in 1972 in general and Centurions in particular, but I don't see 1972 as an available year
-
Rob, I think you ARE the Electra Park Avenue registry!
-
I'm sure as the 1970's and 1980's come mroe into the collectables era that interested parties will pick up what's most of interst to them, as always.
My family had 3 1971 LeSabre Customs, back in the day, and my brother has one now and also a 1975 Electra Limited, so this 1972 Centurion Formal Coupe was a perfect fit for me. I'm sure prople will pick up and fix up what's special for them.

That's a fun one. Bewitched only had Chevys.

Thanks, one and all. Here are a few more pictures.
John-The car does have Autotronic Eye. I've never seen any car with this option before. It works, too-it has a hard time making up it's mind about it, though.
Derek-Thanks very much, In fact, Marge sent me a request for a Porthole article the very night she saw it for the first time. How can I say no?
I showed it to my son for the first time yesterday. I love this car!
The mirrors were added by the previous owner. No, I don't think those mirrors were available on Centurions in 1972. The car is also painted in Vintage Red, a Riviera-only color available that year, and he also installed the Riviera dash pieces and a sport steering wheel. It's part of what makes this car so interesting.

Hmm. It seems to me that I had read that once Star Trek went on the air that Shatner bought a Corvette, but I thought Nimoy and DeForest Kelly bought new Thunderbirds.
I'm glad to see that Leonard Nimoy was one of us!

My brother and I in his '65 Sportwagon had a small radiator leak in Jewell on Friday night and we got by with some Barz leak, antifreeze and crossed fingers. It's been a tough summer, and the radiator finally broke near Albert Lea, and we were towed home.
The rest of the story is that it was a broken weld/seam and not the entire radiator core, and it has already been welded and re-installed and is now home.

We couldn't tell you on Saturday night, Kris, it wasn't a done deal yet!

I know you can't make everyone happy all of the time. How could that be possible with a nationwide population of Buick enthusiasts? The national should continue to be exactly what it is now, moving around the country, and doing the best that it can. I attend the ones I can, and enjoy them when I do.

I remember seeing that car on the road and at the 2003 National. I was deeply impressed with it. Congratulations on a very fun and unique ride!

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the show, Derek and ewing. It's the highlight of the year around here. It wasn't a show I'd place in the top 10, but it's always a good one. My brother and I were checking in cars at the gate for 4 hours, and we froze almost complettely solid. We watched traffic cones blowing around, trash barrels rolling away and our fence blowing over, but we remained in an upright position. We love working the gate and checking in all of the cars, it's a preview of the show itself while we're working. We showed the '65 Sportwagon behind the '57 hardtop in your picture. We weren't in the most social of moods, but I'm really sorry we didn't have the chance to meet you. Maybe next year, or let us know of a Winnipeg show and we'll drive up!

The 1965 is a great design. Good luck!

Hi,
I'm looking for red or black rear seatbelts that will fit a '65 Sportwagon. I'm fairly certain the rear belts from a '66 or '67 should work. I'd need the bolt hookups too.
I like bringing the wagon to shows, but without 2nd seat seatbelts, bringing my family is a bit of a risk. Any and all help would be appreciated!

It seems to me that SOMEPLACE had to be considered the host hotel, even if the events were all close by. The Civic Center was a great locale for the events.

As far as I can tell, that is a 1963 wagon. The 1963 and 1964 full size wagons both used the 1963 taillights. The noses and sides were year-specific. The 1961 and 1962 full sized wagons both used 1961 tailkights, so reusing the taillights had a pattern. I doubt that the bucket seats are original to the car-I'd bet that they are 1963 correct bucket seeats, but from a Wildcat. I don't think anybody had bucket seats available in any wagon at that point. 3jakes, you are correct. The 1964 full sized wagon was the last one until 1970. I'd love to see someone create a 1965 or a 1967 LeSabre Estate Wagon!

Bill, I see by your phone number that you live in the Minneapolis Area. There is a '91-96 Roadmaster Estate Wagon, white with bark, in the Ridgedale parking lot. It looks very nice, with no rust. It was parked on the west side, upper level, near Marshall Field's. it was there a week ago, I don't know if it's still there.
I know it's a different shape than the '87-90 model, but I thought you might want to consider it.

Thanks a lot! That car is very special to us. Our family had one, back in the day, a Sportwagon Custom 3-seat just like this one, in dark green with a light green interior. That car was driven for over 106,000 miles, and was the family workhorse for over 13 years. I learned to drive on the original, and I was very sorry to see it go. It was no beauty by the time my dad finally got rid of it.
My brother found this red one in California in 1999. ALl of the glass had been reset, which is no small task on a Sportwagon, and it had been repainted, but otherwise very original in great shape. We took it to Flint in 2003, shows in northern MN in 2004 and 2005, but mostly it's just a lovely driver and it's a great road trip car. This wagon has been treated to suspension upgrades and it also has A/C. Bro owns it, but I'm next in line if it's ever to be sold, and unless we find a duplicate of the original, this red one will be in our family for a very long time!

Well, that was as hot a show as we've ever been to. We wore our hats and we had a cooler full of cold water on ice, but we headed in to the air-conditioned Cicic center a lot! The air conditioning was on the blink on the '65 Sportwagon, so by the end of the day I felt like a piece of baked chicken, but we all survived and a good time was had by all!

This is an interesting discussion. I don't know how you'd put some sort of minimum mileage limit on the award. We drove down from Minneapolis, and I'd feel odd accepting any sort of award for that. We originally drove the car home from Sacramento and the car has been to Duluth, MN twice and to the Flint show in 2003, and we love the road trips!

That's a wonderful batch of pictures, thanks for posting them! We had a great time, and stayed cool by ducking into the Civic Center a lot. You took a pic of our car, we have the 1965 Sportwagon in pic #16.
