1. Sori, that price is $180.00 vice $80.00. Max
 2. Smaltzie, Don't remember a post, but I got the $80.00 set-up advertised in the Books - made by Newport Engineering - and it works great in my '57, and according to the advertisement, your's is available also Max
 3. Mr Riv, In addition to the other comments, I bought a re-built alt for a 70's Chevy Pickup and didn't have to pay a lot - I believe about 30.00 at O'Reilly's autoparts, it works great - but I don't need high amps, 65 works fine Max
 4. 57w/65-401 nailhead I put a 65 Wildcat 401 in my 57 Super just recently and it's not too hard. You will have to change the crank if you're gonna use the Dynaflo - the flywheel will bolt right on, be sure and align the holes (crank/flywheel) for balance, the stock 57 exhaust manifolds will fit, the 57 pan will fit but depending on the type 401 you have the oil-pump pickup may have to be changed (I heated and bent mine using sand) to get the rear sump pickup that you'll need. Oh, on the manifolds, the engine is a little wider so when you push the exhaust pipe over to engage it may rub on the frame (right side). The Alt bracket for the 401 will work, but check with a little interference with the top right 'A' frame. The water temp therm cover from the 57 will fit (if you want to use it), but you'll have to use the 57 power steering pump - the later pump won't fit 'cause of the battery box. You'll have to use your AFB for the 'kick-down' and such, but it's worth it. My 57 super runs good, no complaints from the dynaflo or the rear-end. Anymore help you need - RM1Stoneusnret@aol.com PS: Many of your 364 parts will fit except for the Intake, Waterpump, timingchain cover etc. Oh, you will have to use a fitting for the temp pickup, the hole is larger (no problem). 5. Mark,
Tks for the info, I improvised a little on your idea - I used 2x4's cutting the one that goes to the tube about 9@1/2 inches with a bevel for the crossmember and then two which when totally measured out to 16 inches then put a 2x4 piece so that wherever it was bolted I used bolts completely thru vice the lag screws, everything lines up just right and now I can move her around. And yes, rain and more rain, but worst of all, I don't have a garage - all my work is out in the weather with a tarp when it really gets bad, that's another reason why I wanted to move her around time to time. Next time stop by, I'm just around the corner from pearland, E-mail RM1Stoneusnret@aol.com. My project was pulled out of a lot with pigs and critters all around, the owners said pull it out and it's yours - so, she's mine - rust and all but with the proper papers and she runs and moves and stops! Had to get new windshield and left back glass, still need drivers side glass front and back, but I've got the time. Agin thanks
Max
 6. I'm 60 - that's one reason why the 57 Buick strikes a good feeling - all the cars then were great! - just re-living the past when I couldn't have one of 'em.
Max
57 Buick Special (43)
previous 57 Chev 2dr Ht
57 Ford 4dr Ht
62 Austin Healey Mk-II (260 ford engine)
63 fast-back Ford Galaxy (390 HO)
64 Olds Cutlass (first 442)
couple pre-unit Triumphs (56 @ 60)
82 Harley FLH
Guess I never will grow up!
 7. Thank you Mark, sounds very good - I can work with wood a little better than steel and this is temp, will let you know.
Packard - I really don't want to fool oround with the transmission tailshaft with the torque-tube configuration - everything works so I dont want to muck it up.
Tks all
Max
 8. I realize that the question on first glance is just inviting some ----cracks, but, with the engine and transmission out, it's a real problem moving the car - the rear wheels don't want to go with the car, and I need to tow her to a place and have some welding done on the front crossmember, hence no engine. If someone has "rigged-up" some way I'd really appreciate the info, otherwise I'll just have to "jury-rig". I took the transmission out with the engine (front end was off so seemed the thing to do) so I could fix the broken A-frame to crossmember connection and cleanup and paint neatly.
Tks,
Max
 9. Thanks. I"m not trying to go concours, but thought if any color at all it would be the "green", and NOT blue. Will just leave it alone, give a little "color" to the underside. Agin, TKS
Max
 10. What was/is the correct color of the dynaflow transmission, 1957 type. Mine is a dark blue - or does it really matter?
tks
Max
 11. I now have my project car taken apart and find the reason for the front wheel leaning ike a newborn colt trying to stand - thought it was those !@#$% balljoints, but find the crossmember had broken where the lower A-frame attaches to the rear half and was "jury-rigged" by bolting a piece of steel between the bkn part and the A-frame attachment. The shock towers are also cracked -- The purpose of this story is to tell those with 57 Buicks to check their front ends for cracks before you end up in the ditch - welding now would avert "jury-rigging like I am going to have to do (or fix). tks Max
 12. Have checked with Steele and they don't carry these gaskets - does anyone know who makes replacements? It's a case of the screen door in a submarine, really need to replace the right side gasket, it's showing light thru the cracks. Thanks for any help.
 13. In restoring my 57 I've run into a very small problem. The 364 is Buick "green", but what color should the trans be? The one that came with the car is sorta "Royal Blue" like color - is this correct? Thanks for any ans to this trivial question.
Max
 14. Ralph, does the engine have a two bbl or 4bbl? I have a 2bbl but its not the correct carb, so dont have the throttle-start or the down-shift rod. what would you take for the 2bbl or the 4bbl and manifold. I understand it now has std shift but you also have the dynaflow - do you have the down-shift rod avail (the carb section)? I also need the breather down-tube and the radiator top crossmember/support. My E-mail: RM1Stoneusnret@aol.com
Thanks - PS: need a spare 15in wheel too!
 15. Hold on, Bert. I am restoring a 57Spec model 43. First thing I needed was a Windshield and left rear Window, (plus parts). Check-out www.wheatbeltbuick.com, Ken and Sue Reeves in Carrier Ok. I bought a windshield (he said good, I say excellent) for $120.00, back window for $50.00, and other parts. I had to drive up to get the windshield and while I was there, he let me got thru his boneyard. He's got several 57's plus others in the 50's range and he doesn't think they're made of gold, so check with him before you give-in.
My E-mail: RM1Stoneusnret@aol.com
 16. Have a 57 Spec 364 two bbl auto - runs and moves, but don't have the kick-down levers - I have the belcrank bracket, but nothing else, - also have the wrong carb, need a 2BBl with necessary kickdown and throttle start mech. By all I've found out, it should have a carter, what i have is a rochester 2jet, but no throttle start, no choke mech and so I'm not sure the linkage hookup for the kick down is right either.
E-mail: RM1Stoneusnret@aol.com - located in Houston Tx area. Tks much
