Be careful. Some paint solvents will interact with the vinyl film
I'm guessing that's correct. Of course some solvents damage any type paint or coating..........Bob

You’ll want to clear over the vinyl. Originally it would have been screen printed. Mike
The print is a two step process. First the graphics then an over lay of clear.

I tried to post and was told my post must be approved. What's up with that?????Bob

I did.... I'm kind of an originality stickler when it comes to my cars.........But a battery charger?......
The timer was missing, replaced by an on/off switch. New timers, made for chargers, are available but as 120 minute rather than the original 60 Minute. The timer dial graphics came with the new timer as a stick on. The girls at the vinyl shop could have simply retimed the graphics, as original, to show 120 minutes but i liked the stick on so they copied that. I also changed some colors and removed the makers logo from the stick on.
I got the tour and was blown away by the process. It's all done on a computer screen. Color, font, shading, anything you want is just a click away. The printer is about 6 feet wide and can print pretty much any color on the Pantone pallet.
I marked up two proofs before I approved the final layout.
I'm still awed by the technology. .............Bob

This may help some in their restoration efforts.
A few may know I have a fetish for old art deco battery chargers. I recently picked up an old (70's) charger made by Allen. I did get all the electricals sorted out and fully functioning but I was really stumped about how to restore the control panel graphics.
There is a shop near me that has a sign reading "Vinyl Creations"....... What the Hell is that?
I took the rusty beat up panel in, explained my problem, and showed them the panel. He said "No problem, 20 bucks."
He ran a copy of the panel, a couple of days later he Emailed a proof of the proposed vinyl over lay for approval.
Below is the before and after. They even applied the vinyl after I cleaned, smoothed and primed the panel. They also covered the upper panel in matching white, no graphics needed, for $6....Bob

There are, or used to be, redi strip shops that were perfect for a job like that. If you are stuck in calif my guess is those shops were forced to close long ago. Good paint stripper likewise has been verboten and kaput for some time now.

Might simply be a reflection of the slow erosion of interest in the antique car hobby. Just sayin............Well, I'm off to the shop to make a part for a forum member's 31 Buick carb............Bob

Haggle. Don't haggle. Get pissed off. Get the other guy pissed off. Donate it to charity. Break it in front of someone just for spite. Seems everyone has the answer to selling or buying.
Actually there is no one best answer. Every day and every deal is different.
I've paid top price and I've low balled. I've not haggled over a $40, 000 deal and I once spent 20 minutes haggling over a $5.00 POS just because we both were enjoying it and it was fun. I got it for $3.75.
If you find either buying or selling is an aggravation you're doing it wrong...............Bob

Trenton, NJ FB market place. Complete including J bars...........Bob

It may be as simple as poor contact in a connector or fuse. The book has the wiring diagram. That will point you in the correct direction to trace the fault. With out it you are wondering through the forest without a map or compass.
do get a good copy of the shop manual. Even if you solve this problem without one you will surely need it some time in the future. ....bob

Unless one is willing to spend commercial sized money for a new commercial quality compressor it's way better to buy an older unit. Most only need some valve refurbishing to be good as new. IR T-30, Champion, devilbiss, Kellog, Quincy are all excellent. Around here FB market place is full of commercial quality 5HP units usually for less than $500. However most are 3 phase and used 5HP single phase motors are scarce. I've refurbished and sold a number of them. Never made much but it was fun. Ive kept a few for myself.
Below is my 30's something IR T-30 I bought for $50. And my Champion I paid $200 for. I found 5HP motors for both for $100 each. Other than new belts that's all I have in them not counting labor............Bob

Assuming you mean restored to original factory condition I'd say a rough ball park would be well in excess of $150,000. If you mean a customized first class street rod I'd say well in excess of $150,000.
In either case you would likely get about $30,000 if you sold it..........Bob

Hemmings is simply following the money. As a business that,s what they must do to survive.
We are a declining market. Modifieds, rods, tuners, etc are the ascending demographic......bob

Show me a 'donate to charity' place like the Starvation Army, or other local organizations who raise funds by selling second-hand items from a storefront who want vintage vehicle parts.
There is a local animal rescue group near me that has a flea market type 3 day sale three times a year. They accept donations all year for the sales. There is no telling what might be there, they accept most anything except TV's. People come in droves from miles around to pick and buy. There is minimal cleaning, sorting, shelving etc. All the work is done by volunteers, my wife is one.
All the proceeds go towards spay/neuter, shelter, food, vet services for dumped animals etc etc etc.
They usually clear about $4000 a sale that goes for charitable good works.
Of course we're not talking donating rusted out mufflers and blown out tires but the car and mechanical stuff is usually very good sellers................Bob

Another flubbed sale. The buyer should have said he just thought he,d like to support both rental places. The rental place should have said he appreciated that and he,d give him a one time discount. Then explain why his stuff was a better deal. Sale made. Profit pocketed. Good will created.
The art of the sale......bob

I recently sold a sign for 1150. I was asking 1200. He offered 1000. Rather than say a flat no and tell him to go away i asked where he wanted to put it. In the insuing conversation i learned he was a police officer.
I said because he was a police officer he could have it for 1150 which he agreed to.
He felt good. I felt good and a fair sale was made.
That,s the "art" of negotiation....bob
