1. I did get a new coolant sensor and will put it on as soon as I figure out where it goes.
Scary huh? I have the manual. Still scary huh? lol It's reading 65-80 no matter how long I drive it.
The Techron did help but as usual the longer I drive it the worse the OPA3 gets. I'll ck the tps. I had the MAF cleaned (250.00) at Buick 2 years ago.
This all seem to begin after blower motor wouldn't shut off even without the car running and a new blower motor assembly was installed.

 2. o.k. after standing outside under the hood in my robe waving at the neighbors the plug has yellow, green and blue wires and plugs into a semi large silver metal part below the air hose that goes to the throttle. The whole wrapped wire is only about 2-3 inches in length.
02 sensor has been replaced and it's not on that side.
[ 11-12-2001: Message edited by: tnheygirl ]

 3. There is a round plug about 5 inches below the MAF which seems to be a little loose. I have looked in manual until I am sick of looking. Does anyone know what this is? I gave it a little tug and it doesn't seem to just pull out but it doesn't have a tight fit.
BTW I put the Techron in with a little under 1/4 tank of gas and drove it around about 10 miles before filling the tank with 8 more gallons. Before refilling the tank, I was amazed at the OPA3 reading it dropped from a 1800 reading the day before while driving in closed loop to a reading of 0 at idle and 200 while driving after the techron. Also the blm fuel dropped from 148 back to 126 which is where the int fuel reads. BUT after putting the 8 gallons in, the OPA3 went back up into the 800's while in 4th gear on the expressway. Also, I thought in 4th gear the car should be in closed loop. Well it wasn't and the EGR was flashing but it never went into closed loop operation and the OPA3 never went down again. The longer I run the car the higher the opa3 reads along with the blm fuel reading rising back to 146-148 range while int fuel stays at 124-126. While the O2 sensor readings are jumping rapidly from .12-.81.
[ 11-12-2001: Message edited by: tnheygirl ]

 4. Well I took my 88 reatta to the service dept. I do have to admit I was scared to death and once there shamefully grinned, showed extra eye contact and wore a VERY fitted shirt. I am in complete dismay. After telling the 2 service guys, no codes, but not feeling right and running rough. They give the engine a good look over(30 min)and mess with a few things, throttle, etc. and actually told me "Don't do anything" yes you heard me. They said it would be way to costly without any codes coming up to trouble shoot. They said I had done everything necessary for standard upkeep and although the idle had a slight rattle not to be concerned. So I said thanks for the no charge inspection and left. Now I'm just indifferent to the whole thing.
On another note I got to see a MINT and I mean MINT condition Red Blacktop 88 Convertible. The dealers wife I think. It was amazing just amazing to look at. It had less than 5000 miles on it. What a thrill! grin.gif" border="0
[ 11-07-2001: Message edited by: tnheygirl ]

 5. O.k. let me just do it and get it over with. 6. Wow I don't know if I should even be involved in this conversation despite it being my problem! Well
1. yes the noise stops when I have my foot on the brake.
2. I hear it most which sounds silly but when I am at a drive through window due to being right next to a brick wall with the window down. I give it gas as I am leaving, no noise, let off the gas and rolling, it starts. Never while foots on the gas always while "coasting"
3. The appropriate word would be a metal rattle. Thats the noise! It just came to me.
4. As Harry stated "I've noticed that the brake pads will rattle in the calipers and make annoying sounds. Quit when brakes are applied." This could be it.
5. Peter - I did not replace the plug wires they looked brand spanking new and the support over the air filter is tight and in place.
6. Robert- My temp after driving a few miles today was around 79 in park still running.
BIG PROBLEM I THINK -OPA3 or whatever was at
1128 still running in park, which I think has to do with engine knocking? Let me get my readings in this area and I'll post them.
[ 11-03-2001: Message edited by: tnheygirl ]

 7. I was driving my 88 reatta and there is a distinct clicking while my foot is OFF the accelerator. It is coming from the drivers side tire area I think. When at a light with foot on brake it's quiet. As I push the gas no noise either but let off the gas and the "metal sound, clanking" starts. As I increase my speed it stops even if my foot isn't on the accelerator. I have cked for anything loose and can find nothing. Any ideas?
I am taking it in to buick Monday since after all the hours of work, 02 sensor, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, pcv, my car still is sluggish and just doesn't feel right. 15mpg -B122 and B123 codes and thats it. I give up!

 8. I cannot find a PCV Grommet/rubber seal. Only because I was told by 2 mechanics if they pull out the PCV valve the grommet is going to crack and break thus needing a replacement, which Autozone, Napa, and GM Direct don't carry. Now isn't there a seal available? The old one also melted back in 91 from what from what my DAD has told me and Buick replaced it along with other things. Whats the deal?

 9. I did as stated earlier went to autozone and got a new 02 sensor and rental tool. Installed it today without a problem. I tell you, the old one I doubt had ever been replaced. It looked bad and had what looked like orange crud around one of the rings near the bottom. Reminded me of some type of corrosion. Well we will see how my gas mileage reacts. cool.gif" border="0

 10. I have an 88 with 112,000 miles with no brake problems. I actually got paranoid and thought I had no antilock brakes because the pedal felt strange to me when stopping but it turns out the guy who did my "fluids" added TOO much brake fluid which caused my strange sensations in the pedal. Took the excess fluid out and have been fine.

 11. This may sound stupid but why are these being recorded? 112,000miles,88 red reatta, tan interior, automatic
Family bought new
1G4EC11C4JB902454
1990 Eggplant reatta/red interior 105,000miles will get vin
[ 09-28-2001: Message edited by: tnheygirl ]

 12. I got the crt today from the junkyard. Put it in and it works perfectly! Clear as a bell for 50.00
They have 1 more available if anyone needs one. Although you have to remove it yourself and the car was wedged in between 2 other cars. I wanted that one but couldn't get either door open! Email me if you want the name.
mswillywonka@operamail.com

 13. I am getting a used crt from a salvage yard for 50 bucks tomorrow. I want to know if I can change the "riviera screen" to say Reatta.
Also, I took out the old crt, took off the gold back and looked around for anything that looked corroded or anything that looked as if it should have been soldered and wasn't such as the red coax-I think. Everything looked fine from back there in my opinion.HAHA It has driven me crazy for 3 years it would go on and off whenever it wants. I really wish I could find out WHY! Anyway, I am wondering could it be somthing with the power supply? I did at one time take the carpet back under the drivers side near the base of the crt but couldn't get to anything but 1 big plug which seemed alright also. Any help would be great. As you can tell I know nothing about cars so my service manuel and all hundreds of codes don't mean a thing!
