Well I've been overwhelmed with emails and I have 17 call backs to make this morning on the car. Thank you guys and girls for the sales help. The only way I can narrow it down is to who has a car trailer or hitch of some type to pull it home with them. With the accumulator out I just can't let someone drive it home that way. I'd worry about you.

EDBS0 lol Thank you. Yes once the car is gone there will be no more posts begging and pleading for help! Believe it or not I did a lot of the work myself..which could be taken as a pro or con so I left that off the site. I changed the mileage to 131,452. Had to run to the store this morning and just by luck the displays came up so I snapped a photo of the odometer and added it to the web page.

I've had enough. I can't take anymore!!! It's time to let go! I'm getting a vw Jetta! Its going up for sale for $650.00!!!! Let me know if anyone is interested. It does have some great parts and new parts as well. No body damage but the inside is shot as far as leather. Also have the big repair manual which I'm obviously very bad at using. Located Memphis, TN Husband still drives to work everyday in it.

Thanks for your response. I replaced the pump motor relay, but it has not helped the problem. Where and how should I test for the 12V to pump? Could it be a bad EBCM?

My husband has been driving the 88 reatta and after approx 15-20 minutes the red light and the pressure light come on and he has to stand on the brakes to stop the car. They work fine for the first 15-20 minutes. It seems to happen after the car warms up same as last time. Should we buy another accumulator???

Hi All, We replaced the accumulator/seals (whole unit) with a new one about 7 months ago and the crazy brake problems stopped, everything was great again. Now the brakes are back to doing the exact same thing. Could the accum. have gone bad again? This was a brand new accum?

Well I am flabbergasted. The brake tests passed with flying colors. The brakes not only work great but the yellow abs light which has continually blinked on and off while stopping for the past 4-5 years is no where to be seen. Here's the real kicker.. I have complained here for years about the entire front display including the odometer display, touch screen, air/heat, radio antenna going down and cutting on and off whenever it wanted. Along with the accumulator we changed the 3 switches/relays on the front wall. I drove around for 30 minutes and nothing turned off by itself and perfect brakes. My husband managed to only break one thing while doing all this (the clip for one of the relays which is now held on the front wall by a tie wrap) Now if I can find a way to fix the leaking power steering fluid I may not have to bother you guys for at least a couple of months! Thank YOU AGAIN!!

Well its off and the bladder was visibly dislodged/broken inside the old one. The new ones on and I'm taking it for a test drive! I love you guys your great!!!

Ok the accumulator FINALLY came from GMDirect. It took 2 weeks. Anyway, we're taking the old one off now and boy is it stuck. Adding some WD40 hope it helps as the husband is a big guy and I'm really scared he is going to break something else trying to get it off. Will update in a little while

Yep the fluid decreased by approx 3/4 of inch, close to an inch. Its the accumulator. I just ordered one with the o ring from GMparts direct $109.00 including shipping. Boy I hope they are fast. I also hope this isn't a major ordeal to install it. Any installation advise would be appreciated. Thank you all as usual for such fast replies. I'm sure we'll be talking when the part gets here.

Barney, Thank you. We took the relays out (which was a task in itself) and saw major corrosion so replaced all three. I will clean all the connections as well. Excellent test you suggested. I will do this in a few minutes. I do hear the pump come on when I move the key to ignition without cranking so it is working. It seems to be once the engine is heated up the brakes go hard thus your suggestion it may be a connection or relay.

Can't take the test. The car is parked and been sitting for about 20 minutes and when you start the car to do the first test red and yellow lights do not go off and the brake peddle is hard. Once the car cools down for an hour or more you can then drive it approx. 20 minutes without a problem before the brake problems and lights reappear.

Where is the cheapest place to get an Accumulator? While braking red and yellow light comes on, brake peddle goes hard (a LOT of resistance) like with no power brakes There is a warning that appears on the touch pad says "low brake system pressure sevice vehicle" Is this helpful? A friend thinks its the brake booster? Is this the Accum?

p.s. 2 brake pumps and the brakes are hard as a rock whether the ignition is on or not

I just replaced the drive belt last night. It popped off once while driving, put it back on with no problems now the water pump has gone. Is this normal?

LOL, I got it back on. Wasn't that bad actually. The funny thing is it was probably the ORIGINAL BELT!!!! Thanks for quick reply.

Hello, I had the large belt that loops around the passengers side of the engine snap and fall off. What is this called and how do I put another on? I bought a 103inch serpentine belt because this is what the autozone guy told me to get and it looks too long and I need help putting it on!

Hi, We had a storm a while back and came out to notice one of the headlights was closed. I don't know but something hit it and the rubber bomper? is gone. Bellcrank is fine. Where can I get one of these? Also, can I get the 3 bushings at autozone or such?

I have had this exact problem for years now. I have an 88 too. Replaced everything under the sun. The only thing I have not checked is whatever is in the steering column. I noticed after a couple of years, if everything shuts off as usual, and I turn the car off and slightly wiggle the key as I am cranking it everything comes back on, dash lights, heater or air, radio, ect. Or if I crank it and none of the above come on, I can shut it off and wiggle the key upon cranking and tadaaa its back again. Its something in the steering column I think because if I don't wiggle it just right while cranking it won't come back on.
