1. If the fouling is coming form the valve seals the short term fix for it that works is new seals. I've used this method for carbon removal. I don't really recommend it to people because it is realy easy to damage the engine by dumping just a little too much too quickly. All you're going to accommplish is removing what carbon is there and then is another 1000-1500 you'll have the same problem all over again. I'd recommend, and I'd do it if it was my own, replacing the seals.
This method does work for carbon removal but it not really any fix for anything. The only time I'll do it is if I buy a car I know was poorly maintian (if maintained at all) so that I can tell better how bad the engine truely is. Carbon build up in the head will make your yyour compression higher becuase it takes up space that normally would have fuel/air in it.

 2. This Libertarian guy must like Jesse Jackson and the NAACP. His comments sound just like theirs, So i'm figuring he belongs to the National Organiztion of Offended People. The ones that if you don't see things their way you are offensive to them. They forgot there is more than one side to the fence. They are the ones who find everything offensive. We had a good example here in NC the other day. A black board member got mad at a white reporter over a question that should not have been a problem. He started acting like a two year old. The reporter called him boy due to his actions. The board member took it as a racial slur and threw a chair at the reporter.
As far as religion goes, we can't teach Christian faith in schools. How comes we can teach buddism, muslium, etc.? (please forgive the spelling.) Aren't they religions just like the Christian faith? What makes them politically correct and the Christain faith not? Just a point to ponder.
If this country would simply calm down and not take everything so offesviely, and not try to smother other peoples right to free speech, we would be a better nation. We spend too much time squabbling between each other when we could be doing something to help a fllow citizen instead of tearing someone aprt over something they said. If you don't like what they are saying, don't listen. If i was in a place where an other religion is praying, even though I don't agree with them, I'll be queit and respect their religion. I try to respect other people but will admit sometimes there is a time to step on toes like when they don't return the respect for other people's religon.
[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 09-04-2000).]

 3. unfortunely, within six months after I left, the owner closed the store. His wife was nagging him about spending so much time there. Personly, I wonder what she he was suppose to do. The store was run by him and myself. I got at lot of cross reference stuff because instead of throwing the old parts books out, I took them home and put them in my catalog rack that bought from a parts store that was going out of bussiness. unfortunely, i don't have the needed cross reference to look at and copy.

 4. I think the point Jim is trying to make is that not everybody is retired an can make some of the other shows during the year. I for an example, get ONE week vaction per year. Well that week is taken up with the Hershey show. Does that mean that because I can't get the time off that is needed to attend a show with a juding school during the year that i'd be banished from judging? We are doing this on a volunteer basis. I have gone some years only making it to hershey. One year the only other show I could attend was in Chesapeke, VA. Thursday night before the show hurricane Fran slammed into NC. I could make it out of my drive and five feet. Road blocked. after that ten power poles down. got power line off my street on monday. Well i didn't make it. Made it to Hershey. The new rule would say I'm out of juding. I feel the rule should be relaxed a little that maybe you need to attend a school every two years. I know Jim and I know he doesn't have that many shows Close by that are just a few hours drive away. I used to live in the same town.
Next year the founder's tour is the closest national event for him. No School. The closest show timewise is about 5 hours to Hershey. Its about 8 hours to Johnstown, PA. That means it's two day out of work. one to get there and the other is friday for judging school.
I agree with Jim that we are going to lose a lot of judges. I see it being a case of people just not being able to make some of the other shows, some years. It would be nice to be retired to be able to make the other shoes. I've been judging for fifteen years. I've made eight schools. If you want younger people to be around to take over the ranks of the "older" folks in years to come, you can't force them out by making the reqiurements for judging so strict that a working person can't participate anymore. I can make shows since they are on Saturday. I can sometime manage to get there overnight. I don't judge just to get the toy truck at hershey, or even the brass chips. I do it because i enjoy it and i enjoy the hobby!!!!!!! I judge a show, judging chassis, on crutches with both lower leg bones busted in two. I'd like to see you do that. I'd say that's dediction. A-judge , if you're not man enough to regisiter, I got an idea. Why don't you pay my salary so I can retire now and go to the shows with school on Friday. I just need you to do it for 31 yrs so i can then get my SS check. wink.gif
[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 09-03-2000).]

 5. IF i remember correctly, The difference between the 1010 & 1011 is one is a two filiment bulb like a turn signal. Also i believe the candlepower for both is 30CP. The dimmer light in the two filiment bulb is 2CP less than the 1157 bulb. Remember, I'm taking a stab at this. I'm trying to recall this for a chart i had when I was working in a parts store about 7 years ago.

 6. Kenny, the Beacon you're asking about was built by the Continental Motors. It was biult for two years I cn't remember either '34 &'35 or '35 &'36. If I remember correctly, they were sold through Western Auto stores. I have a friend that is restoring one in NC. His is a four door. If you would like more info. let me know and I will ask him the next time I see him.

 7. First trip. With the car field, if you meant car corral, ThomasBorchers is right. If you meant the car show, it is only Sat. If you want to see all the cars, I recommend getting there about 5:30 -6am and going to where the lane goes between the stadium and the maintiance building. It is shown on the map in the show "catalog"/ program. All the cars then will drive past you. This is what a lot of people do. then later they go look at the ones they are interested in. I do recommend getting the program. It the only way you are going to find specialized vendors or and person's flea market site. Yes, take a good pair of walking shoes and rain gear. It has a habit of raining at least one day. that's what makes it Hershey. You'll understand that comment after you go. If I unserstand correctly, if you take all the vendors spots and line the up side by side you'll walk approx. 12 miles.
Looking for Model A parts, I would recommend starting with the Chocolate Field, then the White and two new fields.
The show/ flea market is free. I don't know what parking is as I have vendor spots.
This will be an experience you'll never forget. You'll be in awe of the whole thing. Enjoy.

 8. SalG, Thanks for the offer. But, do you have something other than a blush.gif Ford? It'd be bad for my image to be seen in one. wink.gif Seroiusly, I'd be willing to take you up on your offer. We can discuss meeting time and place when we get more details on the get together.
[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 09-01-2000).]

 9. What about right after judge's breakfast? Those who don't judge can wait for us if we're running late due to long winded speakers. Or what about maybe on Friday afternoon. I've got flea market spots in the White field we could meet at.
[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 08-31-2000).]

 10. This is the first year our chapter has been online. We are looking at doing online registration for our car show.
Being on line gives you a place that you can tell others you talk to that have internet access, to go to for more information, pictures of what the club does. We arein the process of featuring a member's car as car of the month. We have apllication forms availiable online. I have had a lot of positive things said about the site. I had one guy that attended our spring show, and was excited when he looked at the pictures from the show and found his VW. He let all the "car nuts" that he works with know it was online.
Hal, from the sounds of it your Pres. isn't online, right? Take time to invite him over and sit down at the computer and show AACA's site. Show him what some of the different chapters are doing online. If you go to Alamance's site, it might take a while to show him everything. There are 20 some pages to it.

 11. the perservation you see in the Antique Automobile Magizne of cars newer than 45 years old are cars that have already won their junior and senior awards. These cars are competing for thier perservation awards. these cars will have to score 350 points or more. This allows the car owners to drive the car some. The owner still needs to keep the car in "show quality". They can't just let the car go down hill.
The HPOF class is Histrical Preservation of Orignial Features. This class is for the cars 45 years old and older that still have better than 50% of its orginal stuff on it. seat covers, paint, carpet, headliners, etc. A lot of these cars would not win any award if judged like other cars in the show. The main idea behind this class is to have orignal cars that people can look at in a "perserved" state instead of restored.
Hope this helps to explain things better for you. When you get your judges manual you'll want to look at Section IV D and F. pages 44 & 46 in the 2000 manual.

 12. I got it and have switched over to aaca.org . Some of the board members have checked it out and like better (without the ad).
No problem about the rules. I knew they were a first draft. I was just making sure all my ducks were lined up whichever way things went and it also worked for solving the major complaint I had from members about our site. Our region seceratry said in Jan she was going to get information to all the chapters about us getting online. In April I got tried of waiting and started our site on geocities. Then got on the DF in June found out more about what was going on about using aaca.org. got in contact with Peter found out what I needed and got our site moved here about a week ago. I'm still waiting on information from region. Our site is www.aaca.org/alamance
13. Sorry. I should have made it a little clearer maybe. At the time this was brought up at our board meeting, it was early in the discussion on here about what the rules ought to be. This changed since. Anyways, I had complaints from my fellow members about the ads. Problem solved. Frontpage around here (NC)including tax is just shy of $150.

 14. Model A Hal, you might ask your board members and/or club, if they would consider buying the program. Tell them that it is needed to put the webpage on aaca's site. Also that the program will be purchased for the club and regisitered in the clubs name. This way if for some reason you have to give up doing the page, the program is there for the next person.
I was discussing the web editors awards and what the talk at the time, it looked like we would need to move our site to aaca's site. All it took for me was telling the board that to get the page on aaca's site required Frontpage (which I didn't have) and we would not have the pop-up ads like our site at geocities. I was asked about price and told them $100 plus, I wasn't really sure exactly. Next thing I knew I had a motion and second and passed for me to pick up the program and turn in the bill.
[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 08-24-2000).]

 15. I've tried for grants for my Nova. I keep getting turned down when they ask for a description of the nova i'm trying to get the grant for. For some reason, the astronomy grant people give strange responses when I tell them it's a 1963 Silver Blue 4dr with a 6cyl. wink.gif
Seroiusly, you might try fire fighting organiztions/museums. That's all I can think of.

 16. Well guess what folks!! I ain't tellin' you who won. grin.gif I thought you'll like to know that after the superbowl in Jan. There will be another survivor show from the outback of Austrailia (however you spell it). I know you're just thrilled with that news. wink.gif

 17. Well, this is it guys and gals. The time you all have been waiting for is finally here. The final show of survivor. Two hours long. So get all your tools and parts together for a nice work session on your car. smile.gif

 18. Along the same lines, what if you know the car is a certain year but the owner for some reason has it registered as a year earlier.
(sometimes state declared the car on the title by year orginally bought. That could mislead.) You tell your team captian and deputy and they don't want to do anything about it. What do you do? The car I'm referring to, I could tell by the body mouldings, some emblems were in the wrong place for the year regisitered as other completely wrong, and the body tag said it was a year new and built in the spring of the following year from what it was regisitered as. Also in this case it would ahve move the car into the next class. unfortunely, I was the only that knew what the car should have looked like for that year, and nobody would listen to me. Exterior person let ALL the emblems and moudlings get by, The interior person let all the seat covers and door panels get by.
I left that show upset!! All I wanted to do was get him in the right class. The captain and deputy never questioned the owner about the year.

 19. Back in '86 - '87 when I was working in a Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick dealership. We'd really check a Buick over if we didn't find extra nuts and bolts lying on the floor. We figured that if there weren't any, they forgot to bolt something on. Chevrolet and Pontiac, we might find something once in a blue moon. This dealership had a lot of cars go through it as the owner also owned a big rental car bussiness.
