Both cars are very nicely preserved originals, and a great find. Original cars with low mileage and in excellent condition are gaining in popularity over restored cars these days. I would not change the wheels, keep them in the original configuration that they have always been. I hope they go to good homes and are preserved.

I would suggest Coker for the correct tires. I have had good service from their tires.

It looks like the back bumper is a 56 Chevy. It's kind of cobbled up looking.

Don, that will be a real beauty! I will be following your progress.

I too am sick of all mostly retail red Camaros, Corvettes and Hot Rods. I record it so I can fast forward through all that stuff and the many commercials. I can watch 2 hours of it in about 20 minutes.

I had a 65 Skylark with the 300 V8 that I used as a daily driver for many years back in the 80's. It was super dependable and a great car. It was a 2 dr Hardtop fully loaded including AC which worked good. I would have really liked it with a 4 speed. The Specials and Skylarks were good looking cars with bullet proof mechanicals. It would be a good basic collector car.

I can't believe the owner converted it from a 3 speed manual to an automatic. That took a lot of value out of it for me. A lot of the CHP cars had the 3 speed. Most 55 Century's had Dynaflow.

I had a 55 Oldsmobile 88 2 door hardtop 3 speed on the column. It had a radio delete plate, but I put in stock radio from the junk yard at a cost of about $10. I bought from the original owner, an elderly accountant and it only had 44K back in 1965. It ran very good! Sure would like to have that car back.

Oops! I didn't notice that you said the accident happened in 2005. Looks like you did a great job fixing it.
-
I am so glad you and your family did not get hurt. I sure hope you can fix it and get back on the road. Great looking 41, well worth fixing!

What a shame to be driving that nice old 57 Buick on salted roads. The car looks solid and the paint and chrome could be polished carefully and waxed and look good. I hope somebody can get him to sell it before it is ruined. Sounds like it probably won't happen though.

I agree with Ben. I vote for picture #1!

Thinking back on the Moon/Racing disks, I do remember them being called Moon disks as well as racing disks. They were available as screw on (had to drill holes in your rim) or snap on like a regular hub cap. They were next to impossible to "snap on" without putting little dents and flat spots. I helped a friend put them on his 40 Ford convertible and we tried to be very careful but wound up putting some small dents in them. Boy! I would like to have that 40 Ford now. It was a very nice car and he only paid $300 for it back in 1961!

The wheel covers on the 54 Buick convertible were called (spun aluminum) Racing Discs, around here anyway.

That is a great picture, it could be on a Christmas card for old car enthusiasts. I sure would like to have that 52 Olds cream colored 2 door hardtop, or really any of the cars in the picture. Thanks for posting it!

Wow! I've been missing seeing the Girls On Buick thread. Now it's back in a big way! Thanks for the beautiful pictures of Terry.

Someone went to a lot of trouble to make that 36 Chevy butt ugly. Ugh!

Mrs Dunning can drive that Packard very well. It would be a bit of a hand full to drive too! My sound is not working, so I couldn't hear what she had to say, but she is an amazing woman. She knows how to take care of a car very well. Thanks for posting.

Dave, I am very glad you came out the crash OK. The maneuver you made to avoid the crash probably saved your life. I hope your Triumph can be back on the road soon.
-
Dale, wondering how the door got torn off the Skylark. It seems like it would be an interesting story!
-
Dave that is a great picture of the 55 Buick with fall foliage at its peak. There is nothing like a Kodachrome slide picture!

It looks like the car has a dynaflow from the picture. Amen to what Dave Henderson said about straight eight Buicks developing a subtle cracks in the area around the exhaust manifold. On my 40 Roadmaster I had a small coolant leak under the car that I did not know where it was coming from. Later I decided to pull the engine and have it rebuilt. My friend doing the rebuild spotted the crack and I wound up getting another engine for the car.

I was always on the look-out for these when I had my 65 Skylark. They are very hard to find in mint condition due to the fact they are fragile and easily dented when they are installed on the car. Good buy for a 65 Skylark owner.

Frank,
I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. May he rest in peace.

I agree the 1962 redesign made the Lark much better looking. The fact it is a V8 3 speed with Overdrive makes it very appealing. It would handle turnpike speeds and be a good driver in today's (crazy) traffic. If it is not rusty and runs good it sounds like a great buy!
