I guess it's personal preference having the cooled air blowing directly at ones self or not.  My wife prefers indirect cooling. Looking at the fabrication and installation of the unit in your Buick I think you will be very pleased with the performance. 😃

    My wife does also, matter of fact she takes a blanket along in all our cars.  Me, blow me over with AC. especially on days like yesterday when it was 107 at my house.

    Chris, I hope I am happy and cool. Lots of glass in that car. I have the glass tinted to help. I should pull the headliner and insulate the roof.

  2. One of the problems we have found is that damn center vent.  To begin with it takes 90 % of the air and blows it right at the seat back.  You cant point it on the driver or passenger.

    Yes, you have the vents by the doors but with the center vent blowing, they dont do so good. PLUS the center vent has a huge attachment that a piece of ductwork wont fit onto. Check out the ductwork on this picture.

  3. Pictures, you want pictures ?    Lets see what I can do.

     

    The first  is the under dash unit being installed with the cover that is being made.

    The next one is the bulkhead connector with both the heater hoses (regular hose clamps) and AC Lines.

    The AC Lines have the EZ Clip connectors on them.

    The last picture is all done, the is all the passenger will see.

    Nope, none of us are coming this year.  
    Me due to medical issues, my Dr. Said not to go after getting my lung drained of fluid last weekend. I thought of driving my Caddy but can’t drive the distance. Forget about flying. No way. Hope to see you in Charolette in the fall.

    This is the 2nd VA system we have installed. First was on my 64 Riviera. 

    wont use anything else.

  6. Still working on the interior and finishing the AC.

     

    We chose a Mark IV from Vintage air for a couple of reasons.

    1. Its the biggest, coldest unit that any of the vendors make. With the amount of glass in the car and living in Texas (we have had 14 100 degree plus days already this year), I need as much cooling as possible.

    2. The electronic controls can hook up to the stock controls.  Seriously, it will look almost stock when done as opposed to having a VA control panel.

    So the AC unit is mounted for the last time, hoses all connected to the bulkhead adapter, and base electronics are connected.

    AND we are working on the controls. it looks like we are going to build a box or plate to hold the POTS (Potentiometers) and then use stock cable to adjust.  More to come as it gets figured out.

     

    If you buy a VA system make sure you look at the EZ CLIP system they and others like Granger)sell.  It makes running AC lines easy.  You can do it in your garage with a special hand tool they sell.  Plus they make all the fittings to make it work. The lines are smaller also which helps clean up the engine bay.

  7. I fought with my 1960 Ac for too long. I kept putting R12 in and it kept leaking out. Finally I have spent time putting a Vintage Air unit in. I had done it before on my Rivera following Don’s posts. I keeps us ice cold now.

    It’s not hard to do.  
    one suggestion if you go this way is to get the mock up unit for fitting. A lot easier then lifting the real unit multiple times.

  8. Its been a few weeks or months since I posted anything.  Being sick takes it toll.

    Rob has been getting up to speed with his new job but our plans are to get the engine back in this weekend. 

    From there we can start running lines and wiring.  

    I hope we are both well enough to do it.

I do a couple of turns and have to take a rest. What is causing all that resistance and is there an easier way? I have been using a 3/8 inch ratchet with a 15mm socket. If something else works better please let me know Thanks.

    A breaker bar may make easier or even an  Impact gun. PB blaster will help get into the threads and loosen them.
