  1. I've taken on the role of webmaster for the AACA Ilinois region and am a 3D printing advocate. I've posted some articles on the Ilinois Region web site on 3D printing along with links to collections of 3D printable parts that have been posted to Thingiverse and Printables. They are not well organized at this time, but they do collect many of the automotive parts posted to these sites. Links to 3D printed parts - AACA Illinois Region I am a retired software engineer with a background including graphic arts. I post all of my designs free for others to use. Because I do not have a 3D scanner, certain parts take multiple passes to get the geometry right, particularly if I do not have a viable sample to work from. I personally have created the following parts (not all yet completed or posted on line) Door sill plates for 1953 Chrysler Convertible. 42" long printed as one piece on a CR-30 - took 5 days. Hood bumpers for 1936 Nash Front and Rear bumper grommets for 1936 Nash Shock absorber grommets for 1936 Nash Fender plug for 1965 Caddy Carb heater Dash panel 1927 Nash I've had great success with TPU for soft parts and prefer ABS for hard parts.
  2. If we can't put together a data bank of models with AACA resources, at least we could work on a database of what models are known to be available and where to find them.
  3. I'm fairly new to 3D printing. I've got a 53 Chrysler that has hard rubber sill plates that are falling apart that pushed me in this direction. My current printer is a Prusa mini that I picked up as a learning tool. So far, I've made parts for mostly for friends and post my completed work on Thingiverse or Printables sites for others to access. What I've completed: shock bushings for 1936 Nash (3 types) in TPU - printed w/100% infill. Carb warmer dash panel for 1927 Nash (PLA) Inner fender plug for 1965 Cadillac (TPU) Seat belt adjuster for 91 Cadillac (drops the belt down a couple of inches at the B pillar so it doesn't annoy my wife) Currently working on hood protectors and bumper bracket grommets for 36 Nash. I'm waiting to pull the trigger on one of the infinite Z access printers, to see if I can find feedback on successfully printing a long part in TPU as my sill plates are something like 42 inches long. This seems like a better way to go than using one of the large format traditional FDM printers and printing the sill in 3 parts and hoping that the seams won't be annoying. I've also been printing things for a model railroad layout as well as a variety of trinkets like auto logo coasters. What are you printing? Sharing what's available can help us all.
