  1. 1949 Pontiac Silverstreak. I just completely went through the engine. New sparkplug wires - plugs - coil - updated points and etc. Also installed a new exhaust manifold. The car has a 6 volt system with a straight 8 and a hydramatic transmission. The car starts and runs like a top. Also, drove like a dream. However, the front transmission seal just started to leak . The transmission was rebuilt in the late 80's. I have a huge stack of papers showing what all has been done to the car. The people that I bought it from, had recently redone the interior. But unfortunately an animal got in there and chewed some of the seats up. Seat covers would cover most of it .The drivers side windshield, also has a spider web crack. New glass is easy to find and is about $125 for that side. It's a Canadian built car and definitely a gem. I hate to sell it. But health reasons won't allow me to do the transmission. I also have a complete extra transmission and a parts engine with alot of parts. Truckpix@gmail.com for more info...
  2. $10,000 The car is located in The Milwaukee, Wisconsin area and it's definitely a gem and has extensive paper trails from all of the work that has been done to it over the years. The engine and transmission where rebuilt sometime in the late 1980's. From what i could tell it was owned the majority of the time by a gentleman who lived in Michigan. I am not sure how many have owned it since me. thinking 3 or 4. the owner before me completely redid the interior. however she left the window open by mistake and a raccoon spent the winter in there and destroyed some of the interior . i talked to a guy who has done work for me in the past and he said it would be around $1000.00 to redo the damages or even a nice set of seat covers would cover about 90% of it. I have just recently replaced a cracked exhaust manifold. Also did a complete tune up. New wires, plugs, condenser, electronic points, new distributor cap and much more. fixed a lot of the old frayed wires and other wiring ( i'm an electrician ) the car starts and runs like a new vehicle. I also Have a brand new Carburetor kit for it and a brand new fan belt and radiator hose that I was planning on installing. It has the original 6 volt system and newer battery. Bias ply tires that are in good shape with plenty of tread left . I have done a lot of other stuff to the car that is too much to list. even the clock works. the body is in pretty good shape. frame and underneath are solid. my plans where to take care of the surface and repaint. however, I just have to many projects. the front seal on the transmission just started to leak last week otherwise it could definitely be driven home. I have a bunch of parts that I also will let go with the car. I have a parts engine with a complete matching Transmission. Fuel Pump-Generator and etc I don't need to sell the car I just feel like it needs a better home. you can message me on here for more info or email truckpix@gmail.com. i will be putting it in storage if its not sold by the end of the month and will add the extra storage fee to the price. no trades. Can deliver in the midwest area for a fee.. will need a front transmission seal and the drivers side windshield has a spiderweb crack.. thank you.. https://youtu.be/IYMV5LgBFUQ https://youtu.be/9sRXjwJJWb8
  3. I did a vacuum pressure test on the system last night and it was right in the ball park that the repair manual said . However, once I hooked the windshield wiper line back up I could hear a hissing sound from under the dash.. So I plug off the vacuum line and found that the timing was acouple degrees off. So I set the timing again and also adjusted the carburetor. Took it out just now and it ran much better. Didn't cut out like it was doing before. Still a little hesitation at full throttle. But by far better than it was. I do have a brand new set of points that i bought. So i will throw them in when i get back and see if it makes any difference. Thanks for all of the advice and I really appreciate it...
  4. If I may ask ? But why go back to the old style points ? All of the research I have done the newer electronic points are the better way to go. I am not questioning to be a smarts a#$. Rather I would like to know why.. thanks for you're imput
  5. Yeah I just upgraded to the electronic points. New cap and cleaned the plates on the distributor along with the new vacuum canister. The miss was while parked and take off before. But now it's just while going over about 45 mph and above. I did try adjusting the gaselector ( spelling ) advancing made it alot worse and retarding it didn't help..
  6. Hello. I have a 1949 Pontiac Streamliner with the Straight 8 backed by the hydromatic transmission. When I bought it last year it had a cracked exhaust manifold and was in dire need of a good tune up. So I installed the new exhaust manifold and then went to work on the engine. New plugs - wires - updated the old lume wiring to new wire ( retired electrician) plus I also upgraded the points to the electronic ones. I went through all of the grounds and cleaned up everything that I possibly could find. She fired right up and purred like a kitten. Then I set the timing exactly how the original shop manual directed. Everything works great with the exception that I have a high speed mis / stumble. When I first tuned it. I had a low speed stumble. Then I went over it again and found out that my vacuumed canister had a slight leak. So after installing a new one and tuning it again. The low speed mis went away. Anyone have any ideas on what the culprit could be ? If I feather the throttle it does seem to help. I did check for vacuume leaks but I wasn't able to find any. Thinking maybe it could be possibly fuel related. I put new fuel lines in and completely took the carb apart to clean and inspect it. Only thing I didn't do was to rebuild the carb. Was trying to make a car show and the kit became on back ordered at the last minuet. So I adjusted the float and other stuff to the manual instructions and installed new gaskets. Going to pop the carb off when I put it away for the winter to rebuild it then. Sorry so long winded. Just figure that I would include all the details.. one last think. I was thinking maybe the vacuum pump was bad. I do have a vacuum pump with a gage. however since it's raining here in Wisconsin. I haven't had a chance to get out there to check it out...
  7. Greetings. Does anyone know how to or where I can get some information on how to read the cowl tag for my 49 Streamliner. So far the examples I have found don't match the number pattern i have on my Streamliner. It has a straight 8 that was built in Canada with the hydromatic transmission. However, a guy on another site says they didn't produce a Straight 8 in Canada at that time.. Thanks for any help...
  8. Carbking. They say that my account is too new to send private messages. So I'll do it here. I heard that word on the street says your the man to buy carburetor kits from. If so i would like to get one for my 49..
  9. Thank you. Off hand I don't remember. It had two types of classifications then two under that. I clicked out of it because I knew it wasn't right and asked on here.. again thank you for taking the time to get back to me..
  10. hello all. I am looking for some help with identifying which carburetor I have on my 49 streamliner straight 8. I am wanting to buy a rebuild kit for it and so far they are asking for which o0ne I have. all of the options they gave me are not listed on the carb itself. in addition, I would like to find out if anyone know the sequence for tightening down the intake and exhaust bolts. I have the original shop manual and they dont list anything in there. I had to replace the original exhaust because it was cracked. which I don't want to happen again. I was going to just work from the inside out at little increments. but on my Harley they have a special pattern on everything... Thanks for any help. one last thing. does anyone have a good resource for pontiac parts ? below are all of the numbers I could locate on the carburetor. Carter WCD. 146 - 168. 0 -568. 1 - 373. then on the brass tag under the top screw it has 720S - 8b H9. 9
