That's not the correct bracket for 49-52 convertible I'm pretty sure it should be the 50-52 brackets for a hardtop they have a different shape.

That style is exactly what i need, it will mount to the inside of the door pillar. Do you still have the 2 end brackets.? Are they original or reproductive.? Where can i get me a set or are you interested in selling those if you ain’t using them?

    The nut extraction method worked!

    it released with a bang

The engine, which has sat in a barn for 40 years, is surprisingly clean. It turns over with little effort and aside from some light surface rust, the cylinders are super smooth!

Thanks everyone for your input. This forum is a saviour!

When I was restoring years ago, I got 90% of my stuff from California Pontiac Restoration out of Santa Ana.

If their price was too high then I would shop around. The retainer is relatively inexpensive.

On eBay. I found two sources for the retaining ring:

The thermostat and gasket I got at NAPA.

Would you guys be able to guide me to find the thermostat?
    thank you guys

@Summershandy I know this thread is a few years old now, but I wanted to thank you for posting pictures of how the thermostat and retaining ring are installed. I just got my first Pontiac, a 1948 Streamliner, and when I drove it in stop and go (mostly stop) traffic a couple of weekends ago, it quickly heated up and threatened to stall until I got out of traffic and drove it at speed to cool it down. I suspected there was no thermostat installed which was confirmed when I took the housing off, but then I found that the hole in the head was too large for the thermostat. In addition to no thermostat, my car also had no retaining ring. I have NEVER seen a setup like this and even when I learned about the retaining ring, I had no idea how it should be installed with the thermostat. Thanks to you sharing pictures of your install, I now know exactly what to do when the retaining ring I ordered arrives.

Where did you order the parts bud

I've got a close family friend who is offering their Hup due to failing health. He knows about the car itself but not much about the automaker as a whole nor what it is worth. I have ABSOLUTELY no knowledge, other than a few web searches, of what to look for before I purchase it, if he and I agree to a price. I believe it is a 1933 K-321 with cycle fenders, but I could be wrong. It had a restoration in the early 80s. It runs and drives as he occasionally uses it in parades or local car show. He says it's all stock without modifications. Any information will helpful. Pictures attached.

    Thanks,

    Paul
