  1. Peter, What are you using to find the vehicles that used the starter and armature? I have a parts catalog from 1939 only. Are you referencing a newer parts catalog?
  2. Thanks everyone! This particular starter went in a Continental (Graymarine) post war. I need to get to it to see if I have the tag with it. I don't have the teg ID recorderd for this one handy. I was hoping that I could find an interchangebale part number, but finding more starters that would have the same armature also helps me expand the search. I'll also look for used starters with these part numbers. Considering how many starters used the common armature, it's somewhat surprising that I can't find one. I'm probably not looking in all of the right places however.
  3. I'm trying to find out what the automotive equivalent parts are for some of my harder to find marine engine parts. For instance, I have a non-functioning starter armature for a 1946 Graymarine fireball six. Part number on it is MCH-2021. Is there an equivalent armature for an automotive starter that I could also look for? Yes, it could be rewound, but the last time I did that they came back damaged and were very expensive. I have distributor and generator part number searches as well. I'd love to know if a parts manual existed for this purpose back then. Anyone out there with a pointer to help this guy get his engine back online? Thanks
  4. Thanks Jon! I will give it a shot. Thankfully, I only need four and have five in case I screw one up. I do need to rebuild them. Do you sell a standard rebuild kit or is what is purchased custom per carb? And do you sell the two pages in the Stromberg manual? Mark
  5. I'm presently working on two Gray Marine engines. A Fireball and a Phantom, both pre-war and they came with dual Stomberg SFM-3 carbs. The disassembly is proving a bit tricky and I can't find a manual for these carbs to help me. Does anyone have or know of anyone that may have this? I plan to order kits for all four of the carbs from The Carburetor Shop, which I think Carb King runs as I follow through the threads here. My current issue is there are some brass plugs that look like they should come out for cleaning purposes. They are very stubborn. Manufacturers sometimes put a plug in and don’t want it pulled for ‘field’ servicing and I don’t want to force anything and cause irreparable damage. The tags on the carbs are 44-37A and 44-38A if this is helpful. Thank you for any help you can provide!
