  1. Hi Ron,

Yes, you are able to get a Junior and Senior Award in the same year.  However, the only way you can compete for a Senior Award is that your vehicle needs to wins a 1st Junior prior to competing for the Senior Award. If the vehicle wins a 2nd or 3rd Junior Award, it would need to compete again to try and win the 1st Junior before attempting to win the Senior Award.

It is also possible to have a vehicle compete for a Grand National Award in the same year if the vehicle wins a 1st Junior and Senior prior to the cut off date for the registration of the Grand National Meet.  With the Grand National Meets, only vehicles that have won their Senior Award can compete.

    Thanks, Tim

Another great issue, and especially interesting to see such good coverage of the new HQ and Library. EXCELLENT!

I received my Nov. - Dec. issue yesterday in Rochester, MN and agree that the coverage of the new Headquarters and Library was EXCELLENT!!!

After seeing the Headquarters in person about a month ago, it was very enjoyable to read the information about how it came to be.

    Thanks for a great issue.

Some what related question....Once a First Junior is awarded is the badge mailed to the owner? Thanks!

Yes, 64SportFury426, you should receive the First Junior badge in the mail.  It will have the year earned and the vehicle number engraved on it.

  4. Joel,

This '67 GTX looks beautiful especially as a "survivor".  If you are looking to show it at Hershey, here is a link from the AACA website that explains details about how to register:  https://www.aaca.org/images/judge/important_judging_meet_information.pdf

Also, here is a link to the Hershey show brochure:  https://www.aaca.org/images/meet_brochures/2021/2021_HERSHEY_FALL_MEET_BROCHURE.pdf  Registration deadline for Hershey is August 15th.

  5. I was very glad to finally get the see this beautiful car on Saturday and have a chance to meet you.  It truly is an amazing piece of work on your part.  As I said on Saturday, it was so much fun to follow your progress on this forum and then to actually get to see the finished product.  Congratulations on your success with it so far and I am sure there will be much more for it in the future.

  6. Bill,

Your guess is correct, the winner of the 2021 Zenith Award was the 1917 Locomobile 48 Sportif Victoria by Farnham-Nelson owned by John McAlpin.  Runner-up was the 1930 Ruxton Model C by Rauch & Lang owned by Cal and Dave High.

  7. Hi Joel,

    Nice looking DeSoto.

Unfortunately, the actual show (the Grand National) in New Ulm is on Saturday.  Friday, they will have the competition for the Zenith award which is the award for the best restoration of the year for 2020.  It will be cars chosen from shows held last year that were the best of each show.  I believe there will be 18 cars in that competition.  That will be held in the New Ulm Civic Center and will have judging starting at 10 am with awards given between 4 - 5 pm.

So, by only going on Friday, you will not see the majority of the cars going to the Grand National because they do not get placed on the show field until beginning at 7 on Saturday.

  8. carfem,

If you look at the Official Judging Guidelines:  https://www.aaca.org/images/judge/2020_Judging_Guidelines.pdf the factory High Performance vehicles are in Class 36 (starting on page 4-17)

    36. FACTORY HIGH PERFORMANCE VEHICLES The Factory High Performance class has been developed especially for performance oriented domestic vehicles, from their beginnings in the 1950s thru their "heyday" of the late 1960s and early 1970s and on. Eligibility for vehicles in this category is evaluated on a case by case basis, taking into consideration individual merits such as weight to horsepower ratio, the manufacturer's actual intent, 4-18 and the era in which the vehicle was built. These are just a few of the qualifying points of consideration. This class is a work in progress and will continue to develop over time. Applications for additional vehicles to be added to the existing list of accepted vehicles must be submitted in writing, along with any accompanying factory documentation, to the VP Judging for review by the Specified Class Committee (SCC), which will make a recommendation to the Judging Committee. The name and address of the VP Judging can be found in each issue of the Antique Automobile. Always check AACA Headquarters for the most current listing of accepted vehicles in this class. NOTE: "v" refers to carburetor barrels.
