    Hello!

We are currently restoring a 1954 Kaiser Darrin. We are looking for any info on the original Yellow Satin #157.

    Any info is greatly appreciated!

    -Sarah

both interior and roof vinyl material is available from KAISER FRAZER OWNER'S CLUB INTERNATIONAL

you do not need to be a member to order, but you will pay an additional 15%

goto kfclub.com and skip to Manufacturing Fund

paint code is PPG  DDL-81606, Acrylic Lacquer

  2. I have a few simple rules to determine which shows, not cruises,  to go to:  (my cruise choice depends on what I want to eat that nite)

no drive longer than an hour--hour to...hour fro and 6+ hours in the field, makes for a long day for a retired old guy

no big paved parking lots--too hot in the sun

prefer small town with shade available, local park, or golf course venue...small towns often have local hot spots for food and drink rather than eating out of a cooler

usually don't go to the same show  2 years in a row, especially if I won a trophy..exception once when I took Best in Show and they put my car on the poster for the next year--had to          show up!

I try to go to as many different shows as possible--having a rare eye catching car, KAISER DARRIN, I like to introduce the car and KAISER FRAZER to as many new people as                   possible--plight of the Independents..not enough exposure to the public

much unlike Nick8086, my prep for a show is 20 minutes--check tire pressure, oil, gas and get the bugs off of the front end and windshield from the run the nite before

my car is not a trailer queen--I drive it--even to the MEADOWBROOK CONCOURS d'ELEGANCE...drove it there, got my blue ribbon, and drove it home!!

...I have run out of wall space...

You get the two red  molds and a Original Kettler Kettcar X-treme to use as a frame..

not include is the windshield, small wheels and dash..

I should have enough yellow Darrin paint  that you can have one..

MAY I SUGGEST THAT YOU CORRECT YOUR POSTING BECAUSE THE MOLDS FOR THESE PARTS ARE SITTING IN MY SHOP.  I JUST LOOKED INCASE YOU SNUCK INTO MY SHOP WHILE I WAS SLEEPING.

  4. My longest cruise was on Route 66, Chicago to LA, 9 days, 2448 miles in an unrestored '51 Henry J.  I always took the oldest version of the "mother road" when available--lots of gravel and dirt along the way

Second longest was an 8 hour fall color-tour in Michigan in my '54 Kaiser Darrin.

Next, and the most fun, was 6 hours, to and from, and on the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee in my Darrin.  Killboy  took 64 pictures of me driving it and put them on their website.

No "trailer queens" for me--I drive 'em!

I am  glad you posted. I feel your pain.. It cost a lot of money and time to show some of the older cars..

Car parts, hotels, gas, . I may spend three weeks working on the car.. Just to show it 4 hours..

Napa does not have any kaiser darrin parts in stock anymore..  I took the Darrin Jr.. to a show only because I could not find parts for the real car..

There are  reproduction parts currently available for almost every thing on the Kaiser Darrin.

If you haven't found something, look in other places.

I have been driving mine for 9 years and haven't put a week of work into it, other than an engine rebuild after a blown timing gear.

I was invited to the EOD and had a lovely time.  Only complaint was the fact that they played loud oldies all day long, much like at a cruise night--cheapened the aura of the event.  I have since learned that enough people complained, it will be corrected next year.

Hey, thanks for the comments.  It seems like visiting a pointless dent guy might be the first prudent step.  I'll need to look them up and see who does this and is close to me.    @KFCarGuy:  How was your experience with Hagerty?  Was it a battle getting them to step up?

    Quite the opposite.

They sent an adjuster the next day.

After I picked up my car,I questioned their payment thinking that it was excessive.

They asked if the shop did a good job--yes.

    Do I like the results--yes.

Asked if it cost me anything--no.

    So...what's the problem?

    End of conversation.

The whole experience could not have been easier

    Point Blank Period!

  7. I got a stone chip on my Kaiser Darrin--basically one big piece of "plastic"--no body panel breaks.

    It is finished in base/clear.

Hagerty did an estimate, picked the body shop and cut them a check for $5K.

They spot finished the color(perfect match) and needed to clear coat the complete front end, from door edge to front bumper.

That is exactly why one buys great insurance.

  8. Darkfader,

Post your questions and pics on the Frazer Forum in  kfclub.com

That is the website for the KAISER FRAZER OWNERS CLUB INTERNATIONAL

You do not need to be a member of the Club to post, but will need to register for the Forum.

Most that visit the site are very knowledgeable about most issues.

  9. WARNING...IF YOU DO NOT LIKE VERY BIG CAR SHOWS OR BIG CROWDS, SKIP THIS REPLAY----ALL OTHERS ENJOY, I HOPE..

I just spent 8+ hours each of the past 2 days at the WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE--40,000 cars and 1 million people stretched across 11 miles in both directions on the outside of Detroit...all along M1, the first paved road in USA.  You may see vehicles from 1 wheel to fully a customized tow truck used for tractor trailer rigs and everything in between, including the original Batmobile.

I have gone almost every year of the past 22.

My experiences may be at one end of the spectrum since I take a rare classic--1954 Kaiser Darrin, owned since 1956.

Admittedly, I did not "cruise" this year.  The heat and humidity beat me up badly!

But, I did stay parked in one of the local community parks at the hub of activity.  TIMG_6572.JPGhere were more than 500 cars in this park.

As you can see from the pics, my car is surrounded by people, all day long.  My wife asks how I can answer the same old questions like.."so it was made in Germany" or "it was made to compete with the Corvette" time and time again.  It is never drudgery since you never know who you are going to be talking to, like the head of the 2008 Viper program, or the guy who used to haul limestone to the coke ovens at the bottom of the hill I lived on in PA, 50 years ago.

This show provides me an opportunity to let people know that there was a big car company that was not the Big Three and that there was a time when all cars did not look the same.

Additionally, this exposure has lead to me finding "lost" Darrins, parts, and invites to special events.

This is a spectacular event.  It has grown every year to the point that this year included legal drag racing!

If you haven't been, make a point to do it in the future.

BING or GOOGLE   "WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE"  and look at the pics and especially the videos.

  10. With lots of hard work for several years, and writing a few checks, it can pay off.

I was disappointed that I did not take Best in Class, but I was up against a 1953 Fiat 8V Ghia Supersonic--8 were made...surely beats 435 Kaiser Darrins made.

The Meadowbrook Concours d'Elegance was the predecessor to the one at St. John's.

    enjoy...
