    Jan,

just because the steering wheels on the left doesn’t mean you against the traffic flow😂

Trust you are surviving this summer we are having!! 🥵

    Hi Ron,

We have had a lovely summer that now is getting cooler such that I can stop sleeping in the freezer. Let us now when you need some QLD sunshine, the winter here was perfect.

  2. Thanks for the video and for sharing your memories of your Rivieras. I bought my first one in 1976 in Sweden (the red one) which was sold new there and I had it until 1982 when I had to sell it. I got my second one in 2015 (the blue one) here in Australia which was sold new in Oregon and imported here in the early '00s. Both of them were '63's which has the styling that I prefer and I love the feeling of the Dynaflow "CVT" although it isn't made for performance.

The red one was used for our wedding photo in 1978 and the blue one for a recreation of the same wedding photo for our daughter's wedding in 2021. Some photos included, the red was red with white stripes when I bought it and became red with a mild flake whilst the blue had been repainted in something that was similare to the Teal Mist it had originally.

When the emergency brake is engaged, is there an indicator light that should come on?

Yes, there is a Brake light on the left just below the oil light (in my ‘63).

Your light could be broken, there is also a switch that is engaged when you push down the emergency brake that could be broken and of course a cabling issue.

  4. I have a flowkooler in my ‘63 which works fine but I don’t have any before information to compare with. Note that there is a difference between the pumps for an AC and a none AC car. You might run into an issue if you install it in a none AC car. I installed in a none AC car but I also converted a lot at the same time to prepare it for AC. See also

So I just replaced the master cylinder on my 63 and now I have brakes again which is nice. But, I reused the old brake light switch and now, no brake lights. Is it possible I damaged the switch removing and reinstalling it? In hindsight I should have just replaced the switch when I replaced the master cylinder but never thought it would be an issue. Also, is there a preferred replacement part? Thanks for the help! Dave

I used one of the following before and it worked fine.

Thats some interesting thoughts, thanks.  As I received it, the car did not come with the factory reverse light housings ... but you make a good point if I could get some at a reasonable price (but then the Australian registration number plate will require modification ...)

The amber one does clash.  Had considered a clear lense and amber bulb.  The amber color is essential as Aussies are not familiar with concept of red turn signal.

I also would like a round chrome bezel for each light.  Meaning to search the local '$2 shop' for something to improvise.

The ‘63 that I drive Down Under has the standard red turn signal. Have a look at the rules, you might be able to switch back to red. Note that in my original setup the brake light will become the turn signal, maybe there are other changes on yours such that you still have the brake light on the same side as your amber light is flashing.

    Hey downunder Happy New Year!

that seems weird for 2 weeks since arrival Melbourne so either delivered to wrong address or left hidden on your front porch??

    Address check?

deliveries these days are like a knock and run..

    dundee

If it has been delivered it should have been reported as such and not “international transfer departed”. There seems to be a glitch in the communication between the two countries postal service. I really don’t have the time to look into this now as we are packing up our home. Here are a few other examples of horror stories with Australia Post:

  8. Hi Jim and Dundee,

The package is still in limbo. USPS has it as :

      International Transit

      Departed

      MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

      January 7, 2023, 6:50 am

Whilst Australia post (who is handling it in Australia, seems to still think it is in Miami...), from https://auspost.com.au/mypost/track/:

      It's on its way

      Most recent update

      Cleared and awaiting international departure

      MIAMI (US), UNITED STATES

      Sun 1 Jan, 4.10pm 1

I have found information that it can take 3 weeks to arrive but it isn't looking good as our last day in this home is on February 2nd and we are driving up to Queensland on the 3rd to look at property.

I have the same problem with cracked torn vinyl on driver's door armrest.  I'd like to bring mine to a local vinyl repair but, don't laugh, I can't figure out how to detach the armrest from the door.  Any help?

You need the Body Service Manual. The procedure is slightly different depending on the type of armrest that you have.

    Down under,

you Victorians need to stop migrating North!😂😎

where are you heading in Queensland? If Gold Coast I am there quite a few times a year so maybe could PayPal Jim 65usd then pick up and hand you some AUD for % of that freight. I see some difference between your plan and Jim’s Re the freight and lots of refunding and currency changing in Jim’s proposal.
As I said I am not really in need at the moment for the part but was happy to try and make up the numbers and if I am a holder of one of those into the future should someone need it, fine.

    Dundee

    Hi Dundee,

we are going a little bit further north to the Sunshine Coast.

it is fine by me if you only pay for the lever, we can fix up the postage both from USA and, if needed, in Australia later. You are correct that there are too many extra fees to be paid to PayPal otherwise.

  11. 2 hours ago, Jim Cannon said:

Yes, Jan, that's a fine plan.  Please PayPal to me 105 USD and I will send you a lever.  If anyone else (Dundee?) wants to join in at 85 USD for a lever, I will refund 20 USD to you (half the postage).

My PayPal is unchanged: 63Rivvy (at) gmail (dot) com

I will get your lever out to you next Friday, Dec. 30.  That gives anyone who wants a new lever one week to join in on this mailing.

Thanks for the offer to receive and resend.  I'm a bit surprised there were not more takers.

    Hi Jim,

I have transferred the $105 USD through PayPal and sent you an email. Let's see if there are any more takers.

Have a great Christmas, I will have mine when the lever arrives.

The postage to Australia is the same if I send 1 lever or 4:  42.80 USD (call it 40 USD to make the maths easier).

If Jan does not mind holding the 3 extra levers until someone needs them, I could send him 4 now and he can pay me for 1 lever + 25% of the international postage (65+10=75 USD).

As others need them, they can pay me for the lever + 25% of the international postage (75 USD) and pay Jan for domestic postage cost to them, or collect the lever from him in person.

What do you think, Jan?  Does that sound reasonable? That lowers everyone's shipping cost quite a bit.

    Hi Jim,

    As you know:

I offered earlier to be the middleman for a once only delivery to Australia with a forward from me to any other Down Under in need of this lever, all to assist in postage savings. I also arranged for an email to be sent out in September ( screen copy attached). I haven’t heard from anyone from that email although I saw that Dundee is interested above in the Forum. I am still happy to assist with this if it happens in the next week but not any later as I will be moving in February to Queensland.

I don’t think sending a package with levers that hasn’t been paid is the way to go. It is a risk for you and a potential headache for me. What I will do is as follows if OK  by you:

I will send you payment for one and full payment for the postage tomorrow over PayPal ( assuming you use the same PayPal as a few years ago). If you have anyone else Down Under that pays you for one lever excluding postage (and max 4) and this happens before end of next week then you can bundle that together in the package that needs to be sent asap as I move on 3rd of February. If you then send me their contact information then I will ask the others to send me enough to cover their part of the postage from USA and from me to them (which can differ depending on how many if any that piggyback on my order). Ok?

    Hey down under

No urgency but if you pass that 63 do you think you could give me a measurement from the front edge of door and gap from the top to belt line moulding. That would be appreciated

    ciao

    Dundee

    ps who owns the GT?

    Hi Dundee,

it is hard to get some good photos and measurements but here are a few. Hopefully this helps. I would recommend that you have someone temporary positioning the mirror with you in the car to see if the location of the mirror is useful for you.

in regards to the GT: I don’t know. It was my daughter’s wedding in Canberra in 2021 and someone had arranged for a second special car for the wedding.

Thanks for confirming the spare tire location. Your car was built week 3C.  Based on other cars, it appears Buick changed the spare tire location around week 3E.

I don't know what to do about the heater temp control levers for the guys down under.  I've only had a couple of requests for them. I may just send a small number to one of the other guys that asked for one and then let people have them mailed from there by local post to them as needed.  I was mostly trying to save everyone some money on the postage cost.  The cost to ship 4 levers is almost the same as shipping 1.

Sending them to you at the city where the car is, but you are not, is not really a good plan.

    Jim,

How much is the postage? Maybe it is better to send them individually instead of bundle several of the unobtainable part together and loose all at the same time if something goes wrong.

Will keep the mirror in mind MR X.

Yes contemplating mirrors both sides or not at all. When I had the LH door skin off I couldn’t see any evidence of holes but it does have the rubber cone so not sure if the cone came off the assembly line allowing for dealer option mirror?

I am cool with the thought of no mirror clean body lines but if I have a pair maybe also Okay. Will have to adapt to RHS as nothing in place there in the door. All doable $$$

    ????

My 63 came with mirrors on both sides when I bought it in 2015. I had to replace the right hand side door skin as a kangaroo thought it was a good idea to jump in. I have attached 3 pictures, 2 that show you the position of the mirrors in the best of the 2 positions. The position of the mirrors will never be super useful unless you add a small blind spot mirror to each one which makes them acceptable. I also add a picture of how a door skin looks like after the kangaroo jumped into it when I was driving in less than 10km/hour…

I've got a pedal assembly from a '64 which is the same but has the hook-up for the electric brake light switch on the pedal assembly which I will include plus the clips & ALL that's nec. to install.

Much better set-up with the switch mounted inside instead of outside & no need to worry about hydraulic pressure.

    Hi Tom,

let me know if Aaron doesn’t want it as I am looking to convert the setup in my ‘63 to a ‘64 brake light switch.
