Nice post Neil of a great looking car. I was getting tired of seeing nice cars with terrible pics. Having started my work life as a plumber I could not overlook the 3/4" copper ells on the left side of the radiator. Probably the origin of the heating system. Surely not factory correct, but something that could be easily corrected. Optimistic pricing will certainly keep this nice looking car on the market for a while, which is too bad as this beauty should be driven.

Maybe that thing on the side of the radiator is a technical improvement, while not being original? Overflow? It looks strange. Good catch!

  2. I am sure at one point in time I am going to buy a 55 Packard, just because of this magnificent dash board.

Maybe 10 years back I had the chance to buy a 55 Caribbean convertible, probably the only one here in Germany.  The guy advertising it had offered it for 50.000 Eur, six weeks later he reduced to 40.000 etc. When he reached 20.000 I went to his shop. In the moment I entered the shop he had sold it on the phone to a Packard collector in Denmark. A white, red and black tricolor example, running engine but needed some love. I AM STILL MISSING THIS CAR! It was brought over to Europe by a camera man that had worked in Hollywood, he said.... I even deleted all the pictures I took because it still hurts me..... Just a car, but probably the nicest I have seen in my life.

  3. What's not to like on this car? It is fully restored, I cannot see any bad looking screw even. Price seems to be very fair for what you would get. We are just living in a world of bargain hunters, myself included. The attention to detail is amazing. Someone really pumped money in this car as there is no tomorrow.  Good for the buyer. These are big and impressive cars. This one will find a home.  If you buy a good running unrestored one it will cost you 15 grand and for the nut and bolt resto you pay only 17 grand more... excellent value.

  4. No, it is not glued on. I removed yesterday the inner fender. Looks like I have to remove the AC unit in the engine compartment at the same time. Both parts seem to be attached to each other. Now I have better access at least. I keep you posted.... thanks for your advice!!!

  5. I only see the last comments now. Thanks everybody!

I still need to check if the length of the dipstick is correct, but when the fluid level is on the low end of the mark I have considerably less torque. Between low and full is only very little difference, maybe half a quart. At full it drives and accelerates very nicely.

I always drive it until warm and only add fluid then in idle.

The appearance of the fluid might look unnormal, maybe due to the flash light, but seems okay for me. Changed it four times to be sure any water is out. I couldn't open the drain plugs on the converter though. Tried a lot. Both plugs are super frozen. But for that reason I changed the fluid so often.
