1. WOW I cannot believe that my wheel question could have such an impact on everybody !!!!!!

I have just started a post in ME and MY Buick with the story of our car and how it has come to be in the condition that it is in !!!!!

1953 Mack I can see how you have the thoughts that you have but please be rest assured that its original and it will stay that way ,with or with out the wires !!!!

Jim I think you are spot on except for the executive thing as there is NO mention of that in that documentation that we have , but I'm happy to ask the old owners as we still keep in touch as they are just tickle pink that someone loves the vehicle as much as them !!!!

I'm also happy to answer questions about the vehicle except for who owned it as I think they don't need to be harassed over it .....

  2. The vehicle was delivered 16th September 1957 to the original owner. He lived with his mother and used the vehicle to do the weekly shopping on Fridays and church on Sundays .In the summer of 1968 the Super had traveled 34,000 miles and he thought it was time to trade her in for the new 68 Electra .

The second owner who worked at the dealership at the time of the trade in had seen the vehicle being serviced and toldpost-100760-143142916093_thumb.jpg the salesman that he wished to purchase the vehicle. It was purchased on the 30th of May 1968 and has been with this family until 26th of June 2014....

The last owner had only shown her 3 times starting at the Flint show in 1973 and her last show was in 1995 BCA meet where it was awarded a bronze ..

The last owner removed all the original red under body sealer and had the whole under body resealed to which is still is today...

He replaced the tires in 1978 with the correct silver town bias ply to which it arrived with in 2014....

The vehicle has never been repainted in anyway and still has its original trim..

The owner decided to store the vehicle in 2000 with 40,696 miles on the odometer, so it was raised on blocks and ATF fluid put in the cylinders and pure glycol in the cooling system ....

I believe that around 2-3 years ago the owner decided to sell the vehicle and put her up for sale and he had NO-ONE make him a reasonable offer in that time and was about to put it into the hands of dealer when we found her (craigslist) ..

It has been absolutely fabulous reading all the information and documents that the old owners have sent with the vehicle, but also to say that there is still some genuine honest people still out there!!!!!

It has taken 6 long months for the vehicle to arrive here and to be in as good if not better condition than described is amazing ....

I hope this helps some people understand this vehicle and why it is in the condition that its in !!!!!!

  3. There have been a couple 57's at shows over the years that I can remember seeing in this color, one was a 57 4 door hardtop either a Special or Century (cant remember which) but was a frequent sight at Buick events, i believe it was from the Greensburgh PA area, name is at the tip of my tongue but just can't get it. It had a repaint and was just a tad darker but definatly the same. Another was Bob Cushman's 57 Roadmaster conv, it was also a repaint but appeared to be the same color with a touch more blue in the repaint. I am sure both cars have had write ups in Bugles of the past

WOW that is absolutely amazing Keith and it does look like the colors of our Buick just reversed !!!!!!

  4. Buick man I tried your test in the drip channel in the roof and it pretty much started to rub up the color immediately. As I had just finished waxing her I didn't want to do it again just yet so I thought that it would be the best inconspicuous place !!

    I hope this helps everyone

  5. Exceptionally cool that you have a photo going back that far, when it was basically a 16-year-old used car.

At 30K miles, it must drive like a dream, like a new car! You must and should be very proud.

    TG

Yeah TG it is .. We got a whole stack of stuff with her but I told the last owner to keep the show memorabilia as It is so dear to them ..but he did send the rosette with her on the mirror which is way coolpost-100760-14314290705_thumb.jpg He is a photo of her coming out in to the Aussie sun!!!!!!

I also took a couple of the paint work so you guys can see that its NOT perfect !!!!

For the people that think the shine is from a BC/CC go to juicepolishes.com.au and have a look at the you-tube videos !!!!!

DON'T get caught looking at the ute being polished:o LOL !!!!

The vehicle was Q cut compounded then speed waxed followed by 4 coats of pure finish wax!!!!

I am totally stoked at how good it has come up !!!!

  7. Well Matt, you started out your post asking about wire wheels and if they were an option and correct, it has been well stated now that they are not correct for a 57 and furthermore aftermarket wire wheels would be even more incorrect if that's possible. So you ask for opinions, you got more than opinions, you got facts, you can't ask for much more than that. If you don't want peoples opinions and statistical facts, then don't ask for them.

Ok my3buicks sorry you didn't like the humor but like I said in earlier posts if I was going to a show then the original wheels go back on with the original hub caps and Bias Ply tires:D

BUT IF YOU READ MY FIRST POST IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYONE'S OPINIONS OF HOW THEY LOOK !!!!!

YES I have read how some people like original wheels and how some people like wires ,but if you have both use them how you like as its a bit like radial tires versus Bias Ply !!!!!! again this is a opinion and we all know what that means;)

TG57Roadmaster , thanks for the info and the data plate information as it is greatly appreciated!!! I contacted the old owner and he still states that it's original and the only photo I have is from the Flint BCA national in 1973 with the same colors .

The last owner for 46 years said it was awarded gold in that show !!!!!

  8. Caballero2 I just spent the last 3 hours looking under the carpet but NO build sheet  But I did take a couple more pic's for the people having trouble with the color and it originality!!!

post-100760-14314290549_thumb.jpg the first photo is inside the passengers foot well ,next 2 are of the trunk floor and trunk

    I hope this helps everyone!!!

  9. Hi my3buicks , I understand your opinion but don't take this personally but as my late father always told me !!!

Opinions are like A...oles everybody has one....and as long as you have got one you are not dead!!!!!:D

sorry just had to put in some Aussie humor ;)

    Matt

  10. Ok I'll be a bit more specific about the tarnished bit ...... If you look at the data plate you will notice that the ends have the paint on them but the section in the middle was RAW aluminium and has now got a mild corrosion ,whitish tarnish too it !!!!!

YES Al I totally believe this to be the OEM plate as when you look inside the doors it still has the correct paint marks as does the trunk when you look behind the lining !!!

    Matt

  11. Hi 1953MACK ,

I just went out to the shed and took a photo of the data plate and its NOT beige but sort of slightly tarnished !!!

I also thought you might like to see the build marks on the hood and there was also a 56R under the hood insulation !!!

I hope this helps you with you HAYWIRE thinking process:p

  12. Hi Lancemb I have sent you a PM on the cars info !!!!

My3buicks I understand the whole correct Show thing and totally agree if I was going to a Buick show I would put the original wheels back on but for summer cruising I think the wires look better!!!

    Matt

  13. Yeah it is sort of a light blue color in the sun but has a grey/green tone to it out of the sun !!!!

I was not a big fan of it when I first saw the photos but I must say it does look cool when she is all polished up and you see it in real life...

    Matt

  14. OK TG57ROADMASTER and LANCEMB here is the Data plate post-100760-143142902701_thumb.jpg

I have just read the additional information from the last owner and he states :Buick spring colors Duco stock order and code # 1865H-202-57616H Sylvan Grey Metallic combination symbol 57X

    The DUPONT code is 2255H

All the paperwork I have on her states that it was a combination paint mix for the spring time ....

The paint is by no means perfect but NOT bad for its age and it has only done 40000 miles.....

    the vin # 5D1134537

I hope this helps you guys !!!!!

I WOULD LIKE TO WISH ALL YOU GUYS A MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!!

    Matt

  15. Hi guys the paint code for her is BX427 and the trim code is 523 with loop carpet...

The wires are TRU Spoke stainless with coker tires but I still have the B F Goodrich silvertowns that came with her that the last owner put on in 1973 and have only done 5000 miles since !!!!!!

She also has the original US Royal spare Tyre that still has the rubber knobs on the tread:cool:

Lancemb she does have the trim separating the roof and I did not know it was a rare option .. Cheers for the info

I will try a post a few more photos of her in my album in the next couple of days after Christmas

    Matt

  16. Hi Jim , she is Dove White over Castle grey..... I have just given her 3 coats of hand rubbed wax with one more to go  She comes pretty good with her original paint:D she also has the original trim too !!!

  17. Thanks for the input on the wheels but have just been informed that as long as it is period correct then I'm allowed to run them !!!!!!

Thanks also for the aluminium drum heads up ....post-100760-143142898466_thumb.jpg

I still have the original steel wheels and hub caps for shows !!

This is how she looks with them on

    Cheers

    Matt

  18. Thanks James I just need to find some documentation !!!!!

Hi Jim , yeah I finally found all the old connectors(now soldered) , adjusted the indicator switch and cleaned the connector at the fire wall ....

The reason I'm asking about the wheels is that we have fairly strict historic standards , if the factory or the dealer did NOT offer wire wheels then I may not use them on historic registration !!!!!
