  2. Hey guys

Thank you for the feedback you have given me . It is quite a involved design ,maybe why

the Bendix type starter drive design has won . I suspect it was a inter corp battle between

    Buick,Delco and GM.

As far as my problem is concerned or was concerned it was the adjustment nuts for

The shaft that controls the brush movement.

It now works but I still need to fine tune that adjustment. Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Thanks again

  3. I have a 1920 k45 6 cyl Buick with a problem that I have is engaging the starter. When pressing the

Foot pedal it only goes down partially . It doesn't happen all the time but mainly on the first

Start of the day . I can get it to engage the flywheel By putting the car in gear and push it a bit. Any

    Help would be appreciated .

  4. For sale, 1929 judkins bodied lincoln Berline with divider window. Partially restored car has been in my care since 1988. the car is from the chicago area and had a sticker in the winshield (1930) chicago country club. I have done most of teh restoration on the drive train. The body work is done and all parts are in primer except the rear fenders which are painted. the car has dual side mounts with mirrors, Radio minus controls., original trunk, dual rear tail lights, wide white wall tires lincoln brand. I spent a lot of time at swap meets and have numerous extras for this car. Lacking are a new wiring harness, some rechroming, and restoration of the wool interior. All wood is in good shape. the aluminum body is excellent. the car is partially disasembled and stored in it´s own private trailer. i can deliver the car and trailer and the pulling vehicle for that matter to your driveway for $25,000 plus cost of fuel and transport expenses. I also have a ton of mechanical parts extra at no extra cost. Contact me at bradb97496@hotmail.com

What is the present status ? If still available can you send pics ?

  5. I am the happy owner of a 1921 9B touring and just love the car. It's extremely comfortable and very easy to drive (considering you really don't have any brakes). Here's my advice on selling the car:

    1. Don't put any money into paint or upholstery. You won't get that money back and an original or old restoration is what lots of people are looking for.

    2. Put money into getting the engine to run properly. Not a rebuild - just get it to run well. These cars are a joy to drive and anyone taking a test drive will be hooked. I'll bet a Franklin Club member would help sort out your car. Depending where you live, you may get a few. Whatever they charge, it would be far less than taking your car to a restoration mechanic who has never worked on Franklin engines. If you are lucky, someone may have changed the ignition system over to a Chevy 6 (sorry for the heresy, Odyssey).

    3. Guesstimate on price depends upon engine condition. I'd say between $15-20K, but I'm prejudiced.

    4. Advertise on this forum here and the Franklin Club website (http://www.franklincar.org).

Good luck and keep us informed.

Im also interested in purchasing the car,I am only about 2 hours from Albany .

  6. I have just put the top up for the first time since I bought the 1920 Buick Touring. I didnt see it prior either. Originally I was planning on replacing it . After looking it over

I was surprised to see a top in great condition except for the black coating that is cracking and coming off where the top folds. My question what should I repaint the top

with and whats the best way of removing the existing coating.

I do have to replace the clear plastic panels on the side curtains

  7. There are fairly decent instructions for the Marvel carbs in a Dykes manual. If you don't have access to one I would suggest you use the advanced search feature on this website. There are numerous posts about Marvels that will tell you what to do. A lot of people cuss at these carbs but as Mark Shaw said ,they are really pretty simple and if you understand their operation they are pretty easy to deal with. It sounds like you have a starter problem if it is getting hot and quickly running down your battery. You might want to contact Jason at Advanced Electrical rebuilders. His forum name is startergenrebuilder

When I bought my 1920 Buick 6 cyl the carburetor was apart and I was sure that it was junk but I thought I would give it a go at rebuilding it. The cork float had to be replaced which

was done and once assembled I followed the adjustment procedure thats in the AACA forum references. When I got to starting the engine I was surprised how well it ran . And it is

    still running well.

I would definately rebuild the carb its quite simple

  8. Thanks all for your quick response. The leaks are coming from inside the core and there are no damaged fins that I can see. The car only has 5500 miles on it and was always garaged . I am confident

of the mileage and would like to keep this radiator. From any side there are no dings . Has anybody used a sealer such as Bars leak Aluminum or Blue Devel . This would be my preference if it has a

good chance of working. I live in the Hartford Ct area and thank you for your input.
