  1. Terry B ..... Basically I Love the 1920's and early 1930's lines on the vehicles of those years (1924-1934)... sedans, coupes, roadsters and touring.... The sweeping fenders the radiators and louvered hoods, the big headlights, etc.....  and I have owned and driven, stock, original, model A's and a 1929 Dodge, 1930 Chevrolet, 1930 Chrysler, 1928 Dodge ... anyway... I Love the 'stepping back in time'... of a slower pace of life... where people were not in a hurry, and a man's word and his hand shake could be trusted.... But lately, (last 10 years) I have been building vintage cars & trucks, from the frame up.... sedans and pickups mostly (late 20's & early 30's) and keeping the old body look (even  the wooden spokes on the wheels) and upgrading to 4 cylinder & V6 engines ... putting in modern syncro transmissions (4&5 speeds)  and improving the steering and brakes.... to make them travel long distances, Safely,... at freeway speeds  Also making parts easy to find and easy to work on yourself .. (no computer).......... I don't want them to be Hot Rods or Ratty rods... just nice looking vintage styling.... in appearance, with modern mechanical  running gear..    Now a days I am building custom made Gypsy Wagon Campers and sheep wagon campers and Conestoga style campers....

Below is a photo of a 29 pickup I built 8 years ago, and it has the same exact running gear as this one above has (22R engine, 4x4 and 5 speed)  It sold for $16K, 8 years ago the second photo is of it pulling one of my gypsy wagon campers on a 2,000 mile road trip .... People LOVE them... every where they go.... they leave a wake of smiles and happiness... 😊 😋 😎

  2. Jpage... HAMB will not accept my posting , because it is Not a Traditional Hot Rod... and it is not stock... I tried.       It doesn't fit in any category that I have heard of.... It is just a practical, 'vintage' looking pickup....... Easy to work on and easy to get parts for.... and fun to drive and spread the happiness & smiles.......😊

Here is another one... I built and sold 8 years ago ... same 4 cylinder engine, 4X4 and 5 speed.....  Second photo,  it is on a 2,000 mile trip pulling a Gypsy Wagon camper I built

  3. Fleek... I call it a Model A.. because to the uneducated, uninitiated, common person on the street (public), they do not know the difference... they all love it, and the only people who question it or criticize it, are people who know their vintage vehicles .... like you     You know the public love that old vintage vehicle look, and love to see them on the road... It has won 'peoples choice' at more than one car show... so that must mean that most people are either ignorant, uninformed or have very poor quality taste..... almost everyone who has seen it, Loves it..... lots of thumbs up and big smiles ☺️

  4. Custom Built, 1930 Model A 4X4  extended cab Pick up truck....  It is Not a Hot rod and Not a Rat rod.... It is a practical... daily driver, Vintage 4X4 truck....

If you are a 'Big man', and do not want to be squeezed into a Model A pickup cab.... and you want to drive your vintage pickup all winter long, on Snowy & Icy roads..... and you feel safer, being able to keep up with the other cars on the road.... and you want to be warm and comfortable on those long drives.... You might like the looks and feel of this 4X4 model A pickup....         Located in southern New Mexico     I am willing to pay for one haft your shipping costs.

I boxed and extended, the frame to be able to mount the 1930 body, which came from a model 170-B 'Blind back' 4 door sedan, that was in Very poor condition, (beyond a practical restoration).    All the wooden frame work was rotten, So... I replaced it all with a custom formed, tubular steel framework. I wanted a pickup cab that had abundant leg room ( I'm 6' 4" 200 lbs.) So, I used the back of the sedan and 1/2 of the rear doors & windows to create a extended cab for the pickup. The entire cab and floor are sound proofed and insulated. All new, lightly tinted safety glass installed, with new window channels and regulators... The gas tank, that used to sit in your lap, was removed and a new steel dash with glove box and gauges from the 1983 Toyota 4X4, truck, installed. (pre-computer) New motor and transmission mounts created, and a removable transmission cross member bolted in and three other cross members welded into the lengthened frame.
It has a very low mileage 22R four cylinder engine (105 Hp) A new Weber carb, with manual choke, New 3 core aluminum Radiator installed (never over heats)... New heavy duty clutch/pressure plate, new fuel & water pumps,Timing chain kit, and new alternator & regulator, hoses & belts.... New 6 ply tires, New brake lines & radius rods installed All new leaf springs (front and rear), new coil over shocks (front & rear) spare tire mount installed under pickup bed in the back. rebuilt 5 speed tranny, where 5th gear acts as an overdrive, over 50 mph. The 4x4 is a solid front axle, with manual hubs.. and works perfectly. it has power brakes (disc in front, drum in rear) New rack & pinion steering.
The Body was welded, sanded, primed and painted with enamel paint, (Black fenders & dark forest green cab, hood and bed). New headlight lens, reflectors with halogen high & low beams, new tail/brake lights, with led turn signals front & rear. Very comfortable, adjustable, bucket seats, with seat belts. Good strong Heater with windshield defroster. Ahooga horn and new windshield wiper motor and blade. Clear title in my name, licensed & insured as my daily driver... Very dependable & easy to drive. Valued at $15,000 contact, Sunny   505-990-6008     sunnybabaspirit@yahoo.com      Located in New Mexico                                                          many more detailed photos upon request Thank you for taking the time to consider this Truck...
I will consider trades for a good running Original survivor, or older restoration....... 1929-1934 Sedan ...

  6. I would very much like to have a smooth running original Dodge, Chrysler or Desoto.... as my daily driver, up here in the quiet mountain area of southern New Mexico.... two lane paved roads, and gravel/dirt roads , with very few cars on the roads and 35-40 mph the common speed..... I do have a trade offer for you of equal value, ($15 K).... hopefully you would be interested in a 4x4 1930 Model A pickup... that was built as a king cap, to provide plenty of leg room for a tall, large person... and easy to get parts for, but NOT a Hot rod or Rat rod..... Just a practical, every day driver, working truck....  Built from the frame up.... using the body of a 1930 'blind back sedan', model 170 Model A..... all the rotted interior framing wood replaced with tubular steel frame work, sound proofing lined and insulated.  with a 4 cylinder 22R engine that puts out 105 HP and a fully syncro 5 speed transmission, Power assisted hydraulic brakes;  discs in the front & drum in the rear..... almost every thing replaced, repaired or New.....   There is soooo much to tell you about, that has been built into this truck... but I will not take up your time describing more about it... unless you like what you see in the photos and want to know more about it.....     I have owned and driven often a 1929 Dodge sedan and a 1930 Chrysler sedan.... so I know what your 1930 Desoto will feel like and be like to own and drive.... I hope you might like to own a vintage looking truck, that you could use all year round as a daily working truck..... Any interest in trading..?  sunnybabaspirit@yahoo.com    Lots of recent improvements made since these photos......

  7. The reason I said $7K... was to encourage the owner to pay attention to the fact that he gave us no price... so he must want a lot of phone calls asking for it... what a strange way to market anything... I wasn't trying to ruin his post... only encourage him to upgrade his post, to be able to give us an idea of what value he places on this nice looking vehicle.... sorry, won't do it again...

  8. I called the owner of this Franklin.... (his children gave me his home number... 239-248-6290)  he is an elderly man, very relaxed and friendly named Earl.  I asked him how long the car has been sitting out in the weather, with the roof leaking... he said about a year..... I asked him about the mechanical condition of the car and when it last ran and when it was last driven... he said it was driven around on the local road about a month ago.... said it starts right up and runs so quiet you can hardly tell it is running.... he said there are no knocks or weird noises coming from the engine... and it does not smoke..... he said the clutch and tranny works & shifts as it should.... the wood spokes are solid and sound... brakes work but the rubber flex hoses are original and cracked and should be replaced... the tires hold air (actually the inner Tubes are holding the air)... but they are very rotten and cracked and need to be replaced right away... He said he thought it had never been restored or rebuilt in any way... that it was an original through-out.....  his price went from $10K to $7K and he told me he would go down to $6K for me.....  I live in southern New Mexico and only have $6K in extra money... so I would have no money left to haul it home on a Uhaul car hauling trailer )total cost to rent trailer and gas about $1,200 more)... otherwise I would buy it in a second... bring it to this arid desert climate.... strip out the headliner and rear seat and repair the roof and any rotten wood.... then reupholster it and buy new tires and tubes... and drive it as is, slowing making improvements and repairs as needed.... not an expensive restoration.. but doing most of the work myself and making it a usable, drive-able car again....  As others have said... if you want a Franklin of this year... this is a good body, good mechanics and only needs a little work to make it very usable.... at a very good price..!!!     Anyone out there that has extra expendable cash (like about $2K)... that would pay for the transport of this car from Florida to southern New Mexico...for me... ???   It would be a gift of Love for the restoration of the hobby ... so that those of us that live on a very small income can join in on the restoration of these old beauties... and keep them alive and on the road...... thanks for listening.... if I can't get it I hope one of you more wealthy guys can save it.....   In love with Life,  Sunny Baba   505-990-6008

  10. Thank You Mercer09... for the suggestions.... I DID post it on H.A.M.B. jalopy journal.... and they Deleted my post within an hour... Because it was not a 'traditional Hot Rod'..... so I guess I didn't fit in there with a Model A 4x4...... and then I looked at Killbillet... and it is all about Rat Rods and cars & trucks that could be turned into Rat Rods..... and I don't think It would fit into that category either.... So.... I don't feel my truck is actually a 'Rod'..... it is simply an upgraded model A truck.. with a little 4 cylinder engine (three times the horsepower).... and other practical  mechanical upgrades, that make it safer on todays roads at todays speeds.... and easier to get parts for at any parts store....  I guess I will.... let it Be... and keep using it and enjoying it here in these mountains.... thanks again for you helpful suggestions... Sunny

Well, it used to be a Model A! Looks to have been a decent cab too.

I guess that I am going to Let this..... posting get buried in the past... by not updating it.... I guess Nobody is interested in an upgraded model A 4x4 work truck....... so I will keep using it here on the Ranch.... thanks for your service here to those who love the vintage vehicles...

  12. Hi Everyone... I know it isn't all original.....and I hope I haven't offended those who value the vehicles that are 'unmolested'...... I have owned many Dodges, Chryslers, chevys and model A's.... all in their 20's and early 30's.... unaltered...... I love stepping back in time... sitting in the Beautiful old ones... and driving slowly around the quiet mountain roads... not being in any hurry... living a slower paced life... taking the time to enjoy the ride.. itself.  going  for a joy ride.... I am caretaker of a 500 acre ranch, high in the mountains of Northern New Mexico, 8,000 ft elevation..... I wanted a good strong hard working Model A 4X4 ranch truck......... that cold haul hay, logs, stones and other materials... year round... in mud and deep snow..... so I built this one.... and I built a 12 flatbed trailer to haul all that.... it works beautifully... and I still get all the happy smiling faces from all the local folks.. when they see it drive through the local village..... I would like to build a bigger 1 1/2 ton flat bed 4X4 model A... work truck... eliminating the need for a flat bed trailer..... But we live below the official poverty level income.... and I need to sell this one to have the funds to build another..... or just give up the idea altogether and trade for an upgraded daily driver..... Model A....... Anyone interested..???

  13. Here is my 4x4 model A, king cab (for the leg room). Located in Northern New Mexico.... Last year I built it from the frame up... It is titled as a 1930, because it wasn't sold until early 1930, It was originally made in November of 1929.  It has a 4 cylinder Nissan Z 2.4 engine with 8 spark plugs and 2 coils.... which is a 1983 attempt to re-burn the exhaust..... this is a very good engine, Weber carb, with manual choke...... Rebuilt 5 speed tranny, new heavy duty clutch, throw-out and pilot bearings........new universal joints and front and rear shafts, new shocks and new brake cylinders, and shoes(rear) and new pads on the front disc brakes.  Power break booster,  Rack & pinion power steering.... New 4 core aluminum radiator, new water pump, all new belts and hoses, new wiring and fuse blocks, gauges, steering wheel and a heavy duty marine heater with windshield defroster.  I installed two heavy duty marine windshield wiper motors, arms and blades...(works real good pushing snow and rain off the windshield).  all new lightly tinted green, safety glass, all around.  The wooden framework, I replaced with tubular steel, in the cab... all except the door latch posts,(which  are oak).  Turn signals and brake/running lights are all LED....... head lights are halogen.  The entire cab and floor is insulated and with sound proofing.  New battery (under drivers side) and new alternator, starter and power steering pump and lines. Has a trailer hitch and trailer plug..... heavy duty 3/4 ton rear springs.  The 4X4 works Great, with new warn manual hubs.....This truck will and has cruised all day long, day after day at 70-75 mph, getting 20 mpg.  It is a pleasure to drive... very comfortable bucket seats. It is a very practical/useful Truck.   It is my daily driver Ranch Truck.  I value it at $20K...... You can E-mail me Directly at:   sunnybabaspirit@yahoo.com   I may Trade for an upgraded Model A Ford that has hydraulic brakes, insert bearings in the engine, counter balanced crank, newer cam, and overdrive... 15. :o Could some of you experienced drivers of a 1929 Dodge Da , Let me know if what is happening with my DA normal.... If I fill the radiator anywhere near full .. and I drive the car 35 to 45 mph for 20 to 40 miles ...... the water pump churns the water up so much at those prolonged revolutions, at that speed... that it pumps the water out the overflow tube.... until it gets down to where it just is covering the core.... then it stops pumping it out. Now it is not over heating at all ... It just seams to not want to keep water above the core at those higher revs..... is this normal ??...... or could the radiator have a blockage..? any experience with this would be welcome....thanks, Sunny
