The reprinted owner's manual, for a '17 Buick D45 calls for plugs to be gapped to .028 of an inch. Does this hold true for any of the plugs used?

I'm a little late to this party, but hopefully, someone will see this plea and respond. I've recently purchased a beautiful '17 D45 and am now preparing the 'ole gal for some shows and driving. The plugs are fouled and are Autolite 3076s. I do not know what threading and would like to know that. Also, they have a threaded top so the plug wire can be secured with a small, brass screw-on connector. Are replacement plugs just impossible to find, and so, I should clean these and re-use? If I do replace them, can the replacement plug tops be replaced with the threaded tops from the existing plugs as I don't see any plug, on the internet, with threaded tops? I have no experience in this matter and am clueless. Thank you, much.

Thank you, all, for your postings and willingness to help. Bob, I was just looking at some older emails (2016) between Dean and me. I reached out to him for help in identifying a car in the background of a photo of my father sometime around 1920. I’d like to send you a PM, but don’t know how. Any pointers? Terry, I do not currently have a D45. But, back in 2016, you helped to identify the car (above) behind my father. The photo had three people standing in front of likely a “teen” car with a Biflex bumper. One of the persons is my father and the other two are an uncle and aunt of mine. Unfortunately, my dad and the others didn’t think that I’d want to identify the car more easily, 100 years later, by allowing me to see the grille. Lind Coop believed the photo likely shows a “teenage” Buick with an early ‘20s after-market bumper.

Are there any "experts" out there who understand D45s? How are they as touring cars? Are there tech sessions, or other sources, for learning the cars? Must one be an engineer to enjoy? Were they the larges "teens" Buick for touring in the day? What are values in the market place? Thank you for whatever information you can provide.

I'm working on a '32 Model B pickup - freshening rather than a restoration, as it is a very nice original truck. Has anyone done research to determine the authentic (AACA-approved) colors for the wire wheels. It is likely the colors were the same as for the later Model As, but I'm uncertain. If you have done research and are certain, where are chips and paints available? Thank you, much. JM

Hi Dave, Thanks for your thoughts. The labeling of the picture was done by me....and since I'm unsure what year and model it is, the 1948 doesn't mean anything. It could be incorrect.

This wonderful looking car was my Mom's first automobile. It's either a '46 or '47. Do you know which year it is and which model it might be? The photo is taken in the driveway, at our house in the late 40s, in Bristol, Rhode Island. The car was likely purchased in a Boston-area Olds dealership. It appears to be medium blue, or gray with a tan top. Thanks for your help. Thanks, F&J. I think the split windshield might date the car between the early 20s and 1927 or so. Does that make sense? The headlight bezel could be a key, but don't know anything about bezel designs. Does anyone know the years for the Buick 16/17? Thanks, Jay Miller

Hi F&J, Ha..yes, my Dad was always a dapper one. Certainly his sister and brother, in the photo, were in their finest, too. As my Dad, the one on the viewer's right, was born in 1905, do you think my Dad was about 20....or? The 3-buttoned, doubled-breasted suit worn by him, might give a clue, as I'm sure he always dressed in the finest of the day. They were popular in the mid-1930s, I think, but then he may have worn one before that. The Biflex front bumper, I've learned was available as an after-market option-perhaps, installed by the dealership - I don't know. The company, I've read was involved in an anti-trust suit in 1923 for restraint of trade (perhaps, it should have been restraint of passengers on collision) and was sold in 1935 in receivership. Perhaps, they still made bumpers but didn't sell as many. Could we infer the car, then with the Biflex bumper, would more likely be from the teens to mid twenties? The split windshield......a 1925 Cadillac came with a split windshield. Would such a split windshield be safety glass? The age, or year that safety glass was introduced might be a help. From perusing photos of various year Buicks (just arbitrarily chose that marque), it appears that split-windshields were not on the 1927 Buick. Also, looking at the headlight frame......can anything be told there? If the car were a 1920, my Dad on the right would have been 15 years old. He looks much older than that. In 1922, he would have been 17. In 1927, when split windshields were not used, he would have been 22. Could we presume the car is somewhere between 1922 and 1927?
